http://www.sweetleaf.com/category.php?subcat=recipes&subpage=eq_chart

here is a link to a coupon for stevia, cut and paste in your web address area.

I love stevia, and I love bargains so hopefully you will enjoy this coupon as much as I did. Thank-you for educating more people about this natural sweet treat and giving them other options than the harsh artificial chemical sweeteners.

I was wrong on what might be a dangerous level; reading further on the “stevia-stevioside” site it said: in the study the authors stated, "an oral dose of 0.25 g steviol/kg Body Weight per day is regarded as having no observable effect." Considering the FDA's statement that stevioside is 200 times sweeter than sugar if the average person is 125 lbs (56.7 Kg ) you would have to eat 14.18 grams of stevioside ( approx 1089.02 servings) the equivalent of tea spoons of sugar per day. For your reference a 5 lb bag of sugar has 576 servings. Can you eat that much sugar every day? How about two 5 lb bags of sugar per day. Further can you eat that much sugar and get "No observable effect?"

I discovered that the brands of stevioside that I have tried were VERY diluted with other substances, which would influence my perception of the taste. Also, I discovered a site listing some of the health concerns (including interference in the absorption of carbohydrates!) at
www.cspinet.org/nah/4_00/stevia.html
which don't concern me too much, as I don't expect my intake would be anywhere near what MIGHT be a dangerous level -160servings :-)

I found much more info available at
www.stevia-stevioside.com
(along with a 100% pure product at emperorsherbologist.com).

Hi,

I use stevita stevia liquid and while it has a bitter smell (perhaps thanks to grapefruit seed extract acting as a preservative), it is great in smoothies and such. I have used sweetleaf stevia plus powder but it contains FOS (FRUCTOOLIGOSACCHARIDES) and personally it causes the same terrible gastrointestinal issues that sugar alcohols do (just thought I would let you know since FOS is touted as good for you). I am going to try stevita powdered stevia (contains erythritol) and am hoping it will be good too!

Hey BillyHW,

Stevia is generally sold in health food stores in the supplement section as well as at many low-carb and health food online retailers. Prices can vary, but they are comparable to purchasing other artificial sweeteners. THANKS for writing! I'm working on recommending a supplier for stevia soon. STAY TUNED!
