Hi Jimmy, I took your suggestion and read the 20 points of agreement between you and your "Zero on the heartscan out or 1000" buddy, Dean Ornish, and it seems like as far as what to eat it's fish oil, and what not to eat it's sugar and flour. I'm not sure which is responsible for both of your stellar scores on this test, (or if it's something else) but I think I'm going to stick with fish oil and avoiding flour and sugar till I figure it out.
I wish there were a registry of people who score zero on this test, like the registry for people who have lost a lot of weight and kept it off. It would be exciting to learn about how a hundred people that scored zero ate, so we could learn what they had in common. If you know any other zeroes and what they eat, I'd be very interested.
<i>THANKS Peter! I know a bunch of my readers who have a calcium score of zero. Maybe I could write a blog post asking people to comment.

I call it the Fatkins Diet because you eat an incredible amount of fat and grease, then when you go off it (which everybody does because it's so unnatural), you put back on the fat you lost, plus some more tonnage. Jimmy, don't compromise your health to be thin. I know when you're young you think you'll never get sick, but the bad fad diets add up. There are lots of crazy diets out there, and each generation makes basically the same diet mistakes the previous ones did. Diets don't work. That's the basic rule. But these fad diet people never go away. They're just lurking in the corner, waiting for another group of suckers to latch onto. So change your eating habits for the better and the weight will come off, slowly and naturally.
<i>I'm eating healthier and better than I have in my entire life! THANK GOD for livin' la vida low-carb, baby!

The best diet for health, animals and the environment is a whole foods vegan diet. There's just no question about it anymore. More and more studies are showing how dangerous animal protein and fat are, even though the Meat Mafia continues to push high-fat, high-animal protein living to kids and adults alike to make a profit. I started plant-based living ten years ago at 50.
I remember I went on the Atkins diet back in the 70s for about fifteen minutes, but I felt horrible, I got so sick of meat/eggs/dairy, and my breath stank.
Get with it, young man, before you irrevocably harm your body! You do remember that Dr. Atkins died of heart problems, don't you?
<i>I post this comment for entertainment purposes only. ENJOY low-carbers!

It's interesting to me that both you and Ornish scored 0 on the heart scan. This brings up the question: in what ways are you and Ornish both right about what to eat?
I imagine part of the answer is about what not to eat, namely stuff that contains flour and sugar that you both think leads to heart disease, diabetes, etc. I wonder what else you both agree on, since you are both so successful at not getting plaque in your arteries.
It's obvious that what you agree on (since you both scored 0 on the heart scan) is much more important than the stuff you don't agree on, like whether saturated fat is good or bad, etc.
<i>Great questions to ponder, Peter. But I've already addressed <a href=http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/?p=1259 rel="nofollow">20 common areas of agreement</a> previously after my interview with Dr. Ornish in 2006. But the biggest problem that Ornish and his vegan buddies have is they are intolerant of anyone who disagrees even slightly with what they believe is true and insist on stating <a href=http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/?p=2283 rel="nofollow">"we all agree"</a> on ideas where there is sincere disagreement (i.e. saturated fat). That's why this attempt to create a "new" Atkins falls miserably flat on its face because it's not taking the best of the Atkins diet at all. "Eco-Atkins" is just a vegan diet in wolf's clothing!

I am a little puzzled by your reaction to the WW article. In the last paragraph of her letter, Colette Heimowitz makes clear her belief that an Atkins diet can be vegetarian. She also says in her third paragraph that the daily carb consumption of participants in the study is consistent with fourth level Atkins, lifetime manintenance.
Pairing vegetarianism and Atkins may come as a shock to some, but Colette Heimowitz doesn't seem to have any problem with it.
<i>I respect Atkins Nutritionals and Colette, but they are a company who's in business to sell health-related products. But the Atkins diet being promoted by them which tends more to the conventional diet message (i.e. lean meats, lots of vegetables, soy/tofu, etc.) is not the same one that was espoused by the late, great Dr. Robert C. Atkins in his books.
Dr. Atkins called for a diet that as a percentage of calories is high in fat, even saturated fat, moderate in protein, and as low as necessary in carbohydrates. This "Eco-Atkins" does none of that, 2bluesky2. It is a low-fat, meatless, low-calorie diet that includes more carbohydrates per day than any respectable low-carb diet would allow during the weight loss phase. Whether ANI has a problem with this or not is not the issue. It's perverting the Atkins diet and I for one won't stand for it.
