The LLVLC Show (Episode 574): Dan Pardi Is The Man With A Plan For Your Health

GET BEN GREENFIELD’S ‘LOW-CARB DIET FOR TRIATHLETES’:

NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

In Episode 574 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we welcome an online wellness and technology guru named Dan Pardi who I was privileged to meet in person at the PaleoFX conference in Austin, Texas in March. He is the CEO and co-founder of Dan’s Plan, a free online database tracker of your progress towards meeting your health goals. This web site is set up so that it “helps you achieve optimal health in the modern world” by empowering you with ways to overcome the many forces at work in this day and age to keep us fat, unhealthy and unproductive.

Dan realizes overcoming these barriers can be extraordinarily challenging, but they can indeed be defeated with his three-pronged philosophy emphasizing food, movement and his special area of expertise, sleep. The goal of “Dan’s Plan” is to provide a sustainable lifestyle program to get healthy and stay healthy. Listen in as I speak with Dan about this sorely-needed resource for making that happen that is free-of-charge for anyone who desires to restore their health!

Listen to Dan Pardi talk about the development of “Dan’s Plan”:

  • We need an “information diet” to regulate the daily “overload”
  • He studied exercise, food, movement, sleep and lifestyle
  • Working on a PhD in cognitive function with an emphasis on sleep
  • Sleep became a “fascinating” subject because it impacts life
  • Food, movement and sleep is the “three-legged chair” of health
  • The biggest mistakes people make in regards to sleep
  • Everything you do during the day sets you up for a good night’s sleep
  • Activity and sleep are “two different sides of the same coin”
  • The most important thing you can do is “get in the bed on time”
  • The effects of sleep loss are cumulative (one full day weekly)
  • Cognition is “impaired” when you don’t receive adequate sleep
  • You get an “inebriation” through a lack of sleep
  • The “iPad insomnia” effect that is impacting sleep
  • Modern technological advances are not helping our health
  • Light is important and directly effects your cognitive performance
  • The artificial stimulation that happens from artificial light
  • Dim the lights in the evening to begin melatonin secretion
  • There are dangers with truncating regular sleep patterns
  • Artificial light is included as a possible carcinogen
  • What about people like Dave Asprey who sleep for 3-4 hour
  • Dan’s “Polyphasic Sleep” post on RobbWolf.com
  • If you miss sleep, then your body will try to “make it up”
  • The Eat, Move, Sleep graphic on DansPlan.com
  • It’s better to get intense exercise in earlier in the day
  • Get less intensity in your workout if you do it later in the day
  • You need to give yourself the “appropriate dose of stress”
  • Getting more exercise into your life may be more harm than good
  • Food is the “most challenging aspect of a healthy lifestyle”
  • What people get with the “Dan’s Plan” experience
  • Why he decided NOT to write a book about healthy living
  • Getting your health sum score (red, yellow or green) to be on track
  • Your health is not about what you know, but what you do
  • Why he chose to make “Dan’s Plan” FREE of charge
  • User feedback helps them improve and tweak the program
  • Why he likes (and doesn’t like) that the company is called “Dan’s Plan”
  • His acknowledgment that “Dan’s Plan” will always be “imperfect”
  • Having humility about the answers to health issues is critical

Next week will be an abbreviated week of podcasting before we take an entire month off from podcasting (I need a break after doing five-day-a-week podcasting since the beginning of the year). On Monday, we’ve got a firecracker fitness and health expert named Dr. Krista Scott-Dixon from stumptuous.com who has a rather irreverent way to look at things like nutrition (Wanna sneak peek of what I’m talking about? Check this out–you’ve been warned!). Then on Tuesday, we welcome back a former podcast interview guest in Nell Stephenson (listen to my first interview with her in Episode 399). She has a new book releasing on May 1, 2012 entitled Paleoista: Gain Energy, Get Lean, and Feel Fabulous With the Diet You Were Born to Eat that we’ll share all about with you in this podcast! There will be no podcasts beginning Wednesday, May 2, 2012 and we’ll return to the air again on Monday, June 4, 2012 while I’m away on the Low-Carb Cruise and taking a bit of time off for rest and relaxation to recharge the batteries.

JOIN US ON THE “ASK THE LOW-CARB EXPERTS” PODCAST THIS WEEK: We are poised to have a TON of questions this week in Episode 15 of “Ask The Low-Carb Experts” on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7PM ET addressing the topic “Exploding The Low-Carb Myths” featuring low-carb researcher and practitioner Dr. Eric Westman. He is one of the co-authors (with Dr. Jeff Volek and Dr. Stephen Phinney) of the New York Times bestselling book The New Atkins For A New You (listen to my interview with Dr. Westman about this book in Episode 338 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show”). He has performed some of the most influential scientific research on low-carb diets in the world. Dr. Westman regularly teaches his patients about low-carb diets and has heard virtually every objection about it over the years. That’s why he’ll be a highly-qualified expert here with us dispelling the myths people still believe about low-carb living. If you have any questions about the myths about low-carb diets that you would like for Dr. Westman to address, then feel free to send it to me this week at AskTheLowCarbExperts@gmail.com. If you liked Dr. Gott’s program, then I’m glad it worked for you. My concern with his plan is his dismissal of the Atkins and other low-carb approaches simply to make his look good. But stick with it if you like it.

As for Gary’s book on sugar, he nixed it. Lustig will be releasing one in January 2013 and I’ll have him on my LIVE Thursday night show called “Ask The Low-Carb Experts” when it’s out.

Wow, I’m so glad to hear Dr. Lustig is writing a book…FINALLY!  I’ll look for him on  your show next year.  Jimmy, thank you so much for this news.
