In Episode 517 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we welcome a very special podcast guest for this Thanksgiving week 2011! And who better to have on the show than a bona fide fitness expert with a ton of experience under his belt to get us thinking about exercise in ways we’ve never thought about before? That’s exactly what you get from high intensity training advocate Drew Baye who is a wealth of information when it comes to the proper way to exercise. While he has great respect for those who are involved in personal training, you’ll find he’s not a big fan of traditional lifting methods or even the whole super-slow lifting movement promoted by people like Fred Hahn. Drew is a big fan of a healthy low-carb Paleo diet (meat-based with very few vegetables) and has a lot to say about the relationship between the exercise you are engaging in and the physical impact on your body. I’ve never had a fitness expert on quite like Drew Baye before and I’m honored to share him with you here today! ENJOY!

Listen to Drew Baye talk about what he means by the word “exercise”:

  • How his interest in weight lifting began while he was active in middle school
  • Who have paved the way for the high-intensity training he now promotes
  • The various ways HIT is being used in the exercise vernacular
  • Why the “context” of training makes a difference in how you exercise
  • How there’s a lot in common between Paleo and high intensity training
  • The “nutty” things some Paleo advocates are promoting
  • Why people get caught up in “programs and diets” instead of principles
  • Why trying to mimic someone who has succeeded will fail you
  • What he thinks about trainer Drew Manning’s obesity experiment
  • How he “let myself go” after he got married, but not overly so
  • What some of the basic exercise templates people should be following
  • Why most people don’t have a good idea of what exercise really is
  • His assertion that not all movement/activity is considered exercise
  • Why he focuses on “the turnarounds” in the lifting of his clients
  • How the proper tension in exercise increases metabolic conditioning
  • Why exercise and your favorite fun activity should be separate things
  • Why he says there is “exercise” and not the various forms of it
  • How it’s virtually impossible to separate what exercise is
  • Why body composition has more to do with diet than with exercise
  • His books/ebooks on the subject of HIT and the proper exercise form
  • What he thinks about my inability to recover quickly from exercise
  • Why eating more carbohydrates will not help with recovery
  • His newly-created USX15 exercise apparatus
