The LLVLC Show (Episode 502): ‘The Juice Lady’ Cherie Calbom And Evolutionary Bariatrics Psychologist Dr. Vivian Shelton

LISTEN TO THE PODCAST ON YOUR SMART DEVICE WITHOUT DOWNLOADING OR SYNCHING:

In Episode 502 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we welcome an enthusiastic advocate for juicing for health named Cherie Calbom, aka “The Juice Lady.” She has authored 18 books on all kinds of topics, including juicing, coconuts, coconut oil, sleep, and health with frequent appearances on television. As you listen her speak, you’ll hear her intense passion and love for the information she has discovered that helped heal her body many years ago. She is a fantastic ambassador for living a healthy lifestyle that goes well beyond the high-carb, low-fat diet that’s been heavily pushed for decades.

Listen to Cherie Calbom share the benefits of healthy juicing:

  • How a personal illness in her late 20′s led her into juicing
  • Why she chooses a vegetable juicing instead of using fruit
  • Her experience eating a “perfect diet” of veggies and juicing
  • Why she has written 18 books on nutrition and health over the years
  • What it is about juicing that helps heal a sick body
  • The various discardable parts of vegetables she now juices
  • How critical biophotons are with raw vs. cooked vegetables
  • Her experience juicing with the late great Jack Lalanne
  • What the most oddball thing she’s ever attempted to juice
  • How using spices wakes up virtually any juice
  • Why animal proteins and coconut are important for weight loss
  • The CLA in grass-fed meats is much higher than grain-fed meats
  • The kind of vegetables that require you to always buy organic
  • Why farmer’s markets and local COOPs are important to support
  • What’s going on with the coconut oil shortages happening right now
  • Why fat is the perfect fuel for the body and the brain
  • Her interaction with Dr. Mary Newport who reversed her husband’s Alzheimer’s
  • The unique saturated fats that are used by the heart in times of stress
  • Why sleep is vital to a healthy lifestyle
  • The overactive adrenal gland that wakes people up in the middle of the night

In the second interview, I’m happy to bring you Dr. Vivian Shelton, a McLean, VA-based psychologist who specializes in applying Paleo nutritional principles to helping people with weight loss. She calls it evolutionary bariatrics and it’s a growing field that we’ll be hearing about for many years to come. I had the privilege of hearing her speak at the Ancestral Health Symposium (#AHS11) in Los Angeles last month (watch her #AHS11 Lecture) and am excited about sharing more about the work she is doing in today’s podcast.

Listen to Dr. Vivian Shelton discuss why she practices evolutionary bariatrics:

  • Why she chose the field of psychology with an emphasis on food and weight
  • How she came across the Paleo diet because of her husband’s health issues
  • Her observation that the post weight loss surgery diet is a low-carb diet
  • How important dietary fat is in mental health
  • Where the psychology aspect of evolutionary bariatrics come into play
  • The various “layers” that contribute to someone becoming obese
  • The difference between “I’m on a diet” vs. “My diet is”
  • Intangible health improvements that happen when you make lifestyle changes
  • What she does as part of her evolutionary bariatrics treatment with patients
  • Whether there are other like-minded psychologists doing what she’s doing
  • What the biggest obstacles are with the bariatric patients she sees
  • The unrealistic expectations people who are obese put on themselves
  • How difficult it is to overcome the stigma that comes with being overweight
  • The other influences in the Paleo/low-carb community she promotes to clients
  • Whether bariatric surgery is ever an option for people desiring weight loss
  • The network she’d like to see of like-minded professionals doing this
  • Her experience living in Central Asia and the food culture there
  • What her Paleo/low-carb meals look like

Blend these vegetables: is(DOT)gd/ByzNri  from ‘mindblower.pdf is(DOT)gd/UOq7yj  and also raw red cabbage blends too, and these is(DOT)gd/5rkohC . You can eat w/ >8-12g total fat for the most carotene absorption, and 40g is required for proper lutein absorption (also blend collards).
Cooking in general seems to reduce content of prebiotics by 25-75%.
