In Episode 480 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we have doubleheader interviews to share with you from two rather interesting guests who have books about weight loss and health. First, we hear from Michael Prager, a former 365-pound man who beat his addiction to food to lose over 150 pounds. He shared about his amazing weight loss success story by overcoming his psychological barriers and inner demons in Fat Boy Thin Man. Unlike many other diet books out there, Michael includes in his book many of the psychological, emotional and spiritual barriers to permanent weight loss success that people so desperately crave.

Listen to Michael Prager share how he went from a “fat boy” to a “thin man”:

  • His experience of “ridicule” and “being shunned” for his obesity
  • The negative impact that his weight played on his quality of life
  • Why he angled the mirror on his medicine chest so he wouldn’t look at himself
  • How he thought he was worthless and his weight problem was all his fault
  • Why most people are repulsed by fat people (even fat people!)
  • The ambiguity of using body mass index as a means of measuring obesity
  • The denial of people who are morbidly obese about how they REALLY look
  • The insidious #howdoyoupissoffafatperson hash tag on Twitter
  • Why he still has a “physical problem” with food that he has to keep under control
  • How shifting his attitude and focus about food helped him overcome his addiction
  • Why finding the diet that’s right for you is necessary whether you’re addicted or not
  • The “so-called experts” who foolishly give out bad dietary advice to the public
  • Why people need to see their obesity on the same level as having cancer
  • Although he lost his weight two decades ago, he’s kept tripled digits off ever since
  • Those times that he “gained as much as 40 pounds” even when eating right
  • Why weight gain tells him he’s not doing something that he should be doing
  • His personal food plan for being successful on his plan
  • Why he doesn’t look 53 now because of his weight loss
  • What the two most valuable principles for losing weight are–food addict or otherwise

Next up, we hear from an “Internet guy” named Ken Leebow who has a passion for simplifying nutritional concepts to help people live a healthy lifestyle. These back-to-the-basics principles are outlined in his book Feed Your Head. He has a goal of ending obesity in America–a daunting task. But he feels a “simpler, smarter approach to diet and health” will make it happen!

Listen to Ken Leebow talk about how you can feed your head to shed the pounds:

  • Why this “accidental author” decided to write his very first health book
  • How an online video about the American food system made him “fanatical”
  • His 30-pound weight loss applying the principles from his book
  • His experience simplifying the Internet and how he used that skill to simplify diet
  • The quick, short chapters that make his book great for bathroom reading
  • What his personal goal is and what he hopes when people read his book
  • Why he thinks strength training is the best form of exercise people can do
  • What the purpose of the title Feed Your Head is all about
  • The Feed Your Head house illustration
  • Some of the biggest nutritional myths in America that he’d like to see reversed
  • The lunacy of the “eat less, exercise more” mantra
  • Why he is “a big proponent of snacking a lot”
  • Why he chooses to ignore the latest studies that come out
  • How people don’t care about nutrients–they love food!
  • Why he created PartiallyHydrogenated.com to expose label lies
  • Why he refuses to get into any one diet camp “from vegan to Paleo”
  • How your tastes change radically over time when you make lifestyle changes
  • Why his favorite restaurant hamburger now tastes too salty to him
  • Why he loathes the idea of a “diet” and considers it a four-letter “d” word
  • The importance of finding foods that will satisfy your hunger every time you eat

Great inverview Jimmy! I feel so forturnate that for myself, ditching the carbs made the food obsession go away. I am glad that he found something that works for him, but eating his diet would have me thinking about when I could eat again all the time.
As always, you do such a great job letting people tell their story, thank you.

I couldn’t eat his diet either, but I’m glad it worked for him.

Awesome interview! Fat Boy Thin Man is really very inspiring, it’s perfect for people who think that they will forever be ridiculed for their weight.
