NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

In Episode 470 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we welcome a returning podcast interview guest named Monica Reinagel who was a relatively unknown nutritionist in the health community when I first spoke with her on my podcast back in March 2008 (listen to Part 1 and Part 2 of my that original interview I did with Monica). Now in 2011, she has exploded on the scene with one of the most-listened to health podcasts on iTunes called Nutrition Diva’s Quick & Dirty Tips, a fabulous accompanying blog with lots of recipes and commentary about nutrition called Nutrition Over Easy, and a brand new book entitled Nutrition Diva’s Secrets for a Healthy Diet: What to Eat, What to Avoid, and What to Stop Worrying About.

Life has been good for this low-carb friendly nutritionist who told me she was actually inspired to take her passion for healthy living and expand it to a wider audience after appearing on my podcast three years ago. How cool! Now Monica is seeking to change the world one listener at a time by educating them about a wide variety of topics related to their diet and the impact it can have on their health. There’s a lot of terrible information being spread out there about what constitutes a healthy diet and I for one am glad to have somebody like Monica Reinagel sharing the truth!

Listen to Monica Reinagel share her desire to impact our culture about healthy eating:

  • Why she blames your humble host for starting her own podcast
  • Her recent move to a new blog “Nutrition Overeasy”
  • How her podcast listeners helped her write her new book
  • Whether she’s seeing a change about nutrition by consumers and professionals
  • Her disappointment in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines from the USDA
  • The need for flexibility in nutritional recommendations rather than one-size-fits-all
  • Her concern about there not being a clear definition of what “low-carb” means
  • Why people can’t seem to put “two and two together” about their health
  • Her response to the insidious “Why Insulin?” campaign
  • The disappointment in how health sound bytes dominate our culture
  • Why it’s so easy to get so overwhelmed by the health information
  • The lack of ability to think critically that paralyzes us to believe dogma
  • How health rhetoric from well-meaning people are leading people astray (Dr. Oz)
  • Her Reliable Sources of Nutrition Information podcast
  • Her disappointment in promoting research that’s way too preliminary
  • The “nutritional whiplash” that makes consumer become frustrated and disengage
  • Whether egg yolks are healthy vs. the egg whites
  • Why dietary cholesterol has very little to do with cholesterol in your blood
  • The ridiculousness of having to eat every two hours on a high-carb, low-fat diet
  • Her personal rant about the myths perpetrated by personal trainers
  • The insanity of constant snacking
  • Sample chapter on snacking from Secrets for a Healthy Diet
  • The benefits of going longer times between meals
  • How diet has a behavioral and biochemical component
  • Whether there’s anything wrong with eating fatty red meats
  • The ridiculousness of lumping red meat in with processed meats
  • Why we’re being kept from diet messages that could be helpful
  • The truth about the kind of fat found in red meat

An excellent interview (as usual). I like how down-to-earth she is, but at the same time, a self-admitted nutrition “wonk.”
