In Episode 468 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we have yet another fabulous doubleheader podcast to share with you today. First up we have a fascinating 10-minute interview I did last week with Belgian researcher Jeroen Raes from The Flemish Institute for Biotechnology about his April 20, 2011 published gut flora research that revealed we are divided into three types of microbiota. It’s incredible how all this bacteria in our gut plays such a vital role in health and the interest in this subject in the mainstream helped it get picked up by Newsy. This research could have some interesting ramifications regarding nutrition as it is studied further in the coming years. You can listen to this interview with Jeroen Raes that I first posted on YouTube last week:

In the main interview, we have the great one himself–Tim Ferriss! If you don’t know who Tim is, then you’ve probably heard of his #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek. He’s now written a new book that has also risen to the #1 spot on the bestseller lists that applies to directly to what I regularly talk about with guests on my podcast. It’s called The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman and is a really thick book that zeros in on fat loss, fitness, sex and more. In my limited conversation with Tim, we zoomed right into the nitty gritty of the most relevant and interesting diet and fitness topics that will relate to my audience. This one has been a long-time coming, but it was awesome to make it a reality!

Listen to Tim Ferriss share about the concepts in his new 4-Hour Body book:

  • Why he became a writer and “the world’s most famous human guinea pig”
  • The influence of his 4-Hour Work Week book on our business culture
  • The experiments he did on himself over the years on a variety of health issues
  • Why eating for fertility very often fixes most other health issues
  • Why removing grains is probably one of the best things you could do for your health
  • The “minimum effective dose” theme that rings throughout 4-Hour Body
  • Why he believes the slow-carb/Paleo-styled diet is most ideal
  • The purpose in having a “cheat day” off of the diet to eat whatever you want
  • Who influenced him to formulate his thinking on nutrition
  • His great interest in a cyclical ketogenic diet
  • What he eats on his slow-carb nutritional approach
  • Why beans and lentils are allowed, but not required on his slow-carb plan
  • The tweaks that have to happen as you improve your diet
  • Jimmy’s eggfest that was a Ferriss-like experiment
  • Mastering your temperature to manage your weight
  • Why taking a cold shower or drinking a cold glass of water in the morning sheds fat
  • The appearance by Gary Taubes on The Dr. Oz Show and the “media game”
  • His love for Gary’s 2007 book Good Calories Bad Calories
  • Why more people don’t regularly test their blood sugar levels
  • The technology in 2-3 years that will make testing blood sugar less painful
  • The good and bad side of celebrity endorsements of making changes in their life
  • How he has been able to cut through the “information overload” personally
  • Why Twitter is such a great sounding board for the most important topics
  • His current tracking of folic acid on cholesterol numbers
  • What’s happening with people who run into a weight loss stall
  • Why it’s so important to drink adequate amounts of water (especially women)
  • The “cat vomit” method for producing visible abs
  • The experiments on health he’s working on now regarding supplements
