NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

In Episode 459 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from a nutrition-minded physician named Dr. Catherine Shanahan who looks at diet as a medical treatment option rather than pharmaceutical drugs. She’s the author of Deep Nutrition: Why Your Genes Need Traditional Food and her brand new book Food Rules: A Doctor’s Guide to Healthy Eating. The future of medicine will take a more holistic nutritional approach to treating chronic diseases and “Dr. Cate” is one of the leading voices championing this way for her colleagues to follow.

Listen to “Dr. Cate” dish about what a healthy nutritional plan looks like:

  • What got her compelled to get into health and medicine
  • Why people get sick because they don’t eat right (and think they are)
  • Why people know what to do but don’t do it
  • When people stop losing weight, they need low-carb more than ever
  • Her low-carb, anti-inflammation diet plan she uses with patients
  • The unique properties of omental fat that causes stalls to happen
  • What a trans fat is and why it is not a natural fat that the body recognizes
  • The role exercise plays at the cellular level
  • Why your cells want to remain “fat and happy” when you’re obese
  • Why carbohydrate calories are really “empty calories” that get stored
  • How low-carb puts the focus on the satiating properties of fat and protein
  • Why carbs lead to worse than weight gain–autism?
  • The value of feeding babies quality food (not carbs) for development
  • Whether there is such a thing as a “one-size-fits-all” diet
  • Why the Food Pyramid/Dietary Guidelines are not ideal for anyone
  • Why it is so important for us to return to traditional diets
  • The connection between overweight kids, sleep apnea, and brain health
  • Why she says dairy is a part of our nutritional heritage (“herding and gathering”)
  • How she convinces her patients that all carbs turn to glucose (sugar) in the body
  • The primary purpose of the hormones in our body (and keep blood sugar under 90)
  • The “stickiness” that happens with glycation inside the body
  • Why metabolic typing doesn’t help people with insulin resistance

I wasn’t clear from the interview what Shanahan advises us to do to get rid of stubborn belly fat? She said there’s a way to get the cells to self destruct but how does one facilitate this? I suppose one of the ways is exercise as I think she said they can convert into muscle? But how do we get them to “die” as she put it? She didn’t elaborate clearly enough on this topic, or did I miss something. If anyone can help me connect these dots please share…

      • Contact her directly Mike, she’ll be happy to help.
