NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

In Episode 453 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” I’m pleased to share the amazing work of a man named Paul Jaminet who has authored a book entitled Perfect Health Diet: Four Steps to Renewed Health, Youthful Vitality, and Long Life that is a low-to-moderate carb Paleo-styled diet designed to help people attain optimal health while warding off chronic disease and obesity. Although many of the people who are interview guests on my show tend to stick with a reduction in overall carbohydrates, Paul actually INCLUDES certain kinds of carbohydrates that many veteran low-carbers would never put in their mouth. It’s a controversial idea in the low-carb community but I encourage you to listen to the reasons behind what Paul Jaminet has to say about why moderating carbohydrate consumption is ideal. It’s gonna be a fantastic conversation for you to enjoy today!

Listen to Paul Jaminet share about his low-to-moderate carb Paleo approach:

  • The acne problem that he overcame with a low-carb diet
  • How antibiotics led to a serious decline in his mental and physical health
  • Why he gave up on conventional medicine and turned to herbal medicine
  • His exposure to the low-carb Paleo plan via Art De Vany
  • The scurvy he developed following a strict low-carb diet
  • Why he started dedicating his life full-time to understanding nutrition in 2005
  • How his economic background helped him with his newfound diet knowledge
  • What chronic infections are made worse for people following a low-carb diet
  • The minimum amount of carbohydrate people should be consuming
  • Whether there are any concerns about consuming a zero-carb diet
  • The carb cutoff point for preventing problems with ketogenic diets
  • Why he thinks white rice is “a very good food” for people to eat
  • The “safe starches” that are more essential than fruits and vegetables
  • Why some people may have difficulty eating these starches regularly
  • The role ketogenic diets play in warding off and treating cancer
  • How coconut oil is used in a ketogenic diet along with some starches
  • His economic metaphor for healthy living
  • The four steps to attaining “perfect health”
  • Why protein intake should be moderated by design
  • The difference between the “dangerous” fats and the “safe” fats
  • What foods with the various kinds of fats we should be consuming
  • Why he believes saturated fats are “benign” and not dangerous
  • How to remove the toxins from our diet to attain “perfect health”
  • Why he says it’s okay to put some sugar in your low-carb ice cream
  • The essential supplements needed to optimize your micro-nutrition
  • Why people of African descent should have Vitamin D3 levels of 30
  • How to maximize health by implementing disease prevention measures
  • The role intermittent fasting keeps your cells “clean of pathogens”
  • His support for consuming coconut oil during IF to extend the fast
  • Whether calories count and need to be micromanaged

I agree with most of what Paul says, but I’ve had issues doing daily 16 hour fasts for extensive periods (2+ months). My body got cold and I started to lose muscle.

I think the discussion you had with Art De Vany (LLVC 451) about how the genes can learn predictable patterns of fuel consumption is probably accurate. In other words, IF done for long periods becomes scheduled and benefits decline. Since I stopped doing the daily 16 hour fasts and returned to a more random approach, I feel like my metabolism is back.

I’d also be interested to hear Paul’s thoughts on fermented foods such as kimchi.

very interesting ideas re. mucus & toxicity & scurvy. thanks!

i just wonder how did Inuits, Stefansson Shackelton’s team avoided scurvy? when they are on a almost all meat diet.
(just realized my diet is very close to his “PHD” in terms of %)
