The LLVLC Show (Episode 449): ‘The Paleo Diet’ Author Dr. Loren Cordain Clarifies Position On Saturated Fat

NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

Paleo diets are certainly nothing new under the sun as they’ve existed for tens of thousands of years. Modern-day advocates of Paleo/primal/traditional diets are simply trying to get people to hearken back to the nutrition and fitness principles of early man as a means for avoiding the modern epidemics of obesity and chronic preventible diseases that plague us. The influx of highly-processed garbage that has been passed off as “food” in the 21st Century has taken us further and further away from what Paleolithic man was really all about. Thankfully we have people who are championing what it means to be Paleo and I’m highlighting them for you all this week during my special “Paleo Extravaganza Week.” We already heard from Mark Pomery on Monday and we’ve got Diane Sanfilippo, Art De Vany, and Monica Hughes coming up later this week to help educate us more about what Paleo living looks like in the year 2011.

In Episode 449 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we welcome to the show Dr. Loren Cordain who will discuss some of the more controversial concepts found in his original 2002 release The Paleo Diet such as the role of saturated fat in a Paleolithic diet. You won’t wanna miss his answer to that in today’s interview. He’ll also talk about his brand new 2011 follow-up book The Paleo Diet Cookbook: More than 150 recipes for Paleo Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Beverages. With the rise in Paleo popularity over the past year or so, more and more people are looking to eat this way and wanted some delicious recipes to try for themselves. So Dr. Cordain teamed up with his wife Lorrie and well as former podcast guest Nell Stephenson to make these Paleo-friendly dishes available in book form.

Listen to Dr. Loren Cordain share about his thoughts on Paleo living:

  • An update on what’s been happening in the past couple of years
  • The explosion of interest in Paleo since 2010
  • How the Paleo concept has grown through the Internet
  • What’s in the new revised version of The Paleo Diet
  • Why he chose to add coconut oil to the new version of The Paleo Diet
  • Clarification on his position regarding saturated fat consumption
  • How you can have atheroschlerosis without having heart disease
  • His pro-saturated fat position juxtaposed with the “lean protein” promotion
  • Why he chose to write a cookbook eight years after the release of his first book
  • Why he wrote the cookbook in about a month
  • His support of an 85-15 rule as part of The Paleo Diet
  • The reason why he chose not to put any pictures in the cookbook
  • Paleo-friendly snack ideas perfect for people on the go
  • Why he chose to include Paleo desserts as part of the new cookbook
  • The meal plan ideas provided in the new book to know what to eat
  • Why he doesn’t like calling his plan a “diet”
  • The immediate improvements new Paleo dieters experience in their health
  • Why Paleo is so therapeutic for autoimmune disease
  • His upcoming new book releasing in late 2011 on autoimmune disease
  • Why high-performance athletes have unique needs for fueling their workouts
