My brother has a GBM brain tumor and not responding any longer to chemo has been told to supplement whey protein into his diet. Looking at all of these studies on the net the exclusion of glucose and meats seem to be getting awesome results with patients. I believe I will try to get him to atleast give it a try he is upbeat and accepting to the fate God has given him but I believe he may give this the old college try. Thanks for the insight!

Mr. Moore is taking the same position on low-carb that his predacessors did on low-fat; minimizing or ignoring the research that does not support his case and embellishing the findings that do support his case. Read what Dr. Seyfried replied,
"It is also important to mention that the anti-tumor benefits of the diet are observed only when given in restricted amounts to lower total caloric intake. Our previous studies showed that we could get similar results using a calorically restricted high carbohydrate/low fat diet."
If we want low-carb diets to lose their unfavorable reputation, shouldn't we be unbiased when interpreting research findings? It is so easy to refute the conclusion this author makes that it reinforces the perception that low-carbers are merely fad-diet zealots.
THANK YOU for your comments, Janel. However, I'm not minimizing anything about the science and you can hear directly from Dr. Seyfried yourself in my November 2009 podcast interview with him regarding a calorie-restricted, high-fat, low-carb ketogenic diet for cancer therapy. I don't think low-carb diets have an "unfavorable reputation" because the people who support them are engaging in the same tactics as advocates of low-fat diets. Anyone who follows me knows I am all about people finding what works for them, doing that exactly, and then keep doing it forever--even if it means going on a nutritional approach other than low-carb. How many low-fat promoters do you know who make that claim about low-carb diets? I can tell you: NONE! :)

Hey Hellistile,

Don't get fooled into thinking the people who read my blog are "the converted." There are many vegetarian, low-fat, and other lurkers who come here just to see what all the fuss is about.

Plus, the explosion of traffic coming to my blog is still at an all-time high. I am getting literally hundreds upon hundreds of e-mails weekly from people who are just finding out about this blog, so everything I have already been writing about is brand new to them.

It can be frustrating knowing the truth and seeing it ignored for the most part by much of the supposedly "caring" health community and the media. But take heart and spread the word.

We CAN make the message come through loud and clear one person at a time in our circle of influence. Keep at it and NEVER give up! I sure won't be! :D

Jimmy:
It's all wonderful that you, I and all your bloggers are informed on all the wonderful benefit's of low-carb eating/nutrition, however you are preaching to the converted. It's great to have proof about everything we have been saying all along. Then I went down to the cafeteria and had 2 vegetarian choices for soup.

Why haven't I seen this on the news as well as the one about pancreatic cancer? In the papers? On BBC or CBC? Do you have any idea when this will happen?

I was so pleased to see these results and blogged about it myself today. My mom had a brain tumor in 1992 and had I known this, I would have forced her onto a low carb WOE. Thankfully, her tumor was benign. But had it been malignant, it would have been virtually untreatable. Our low-fat-hypnotized media won't report on this too much--wait and see--but I have to wonder how much the proliferation of HFCS in everything sold at the supermarket is not only making us fat but feeding our cancer!

Yep, it has been well known and documented in the literature that cancers thrive on glucose. It will be interesting to see how the naysayers and "essential carbohydrates" advocates will try to wriggle their way out of this latest evidence!
