Remembering Kevin Moore

R.I.P. Kevin Lee Moore (1967-2008)

Kevin Lee Moore–August 22, 1967-October 16, 2008

Our loving son, brother, and friend went home to be with the Lord at 4:30am today. THANK YOU for your prayers for Kevin and my family over this past week and for the weeks, months, and years you have been a part of my life. He passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours this morning and he seemed to have a good time visiting with all of us on the final day of his life. I’ll never forget that big grin on his face as we shared memories and funny moments throughout the day yesterday. My dad was with Kevin when he took his final breath and we were all there at the hospital bed within a few minutes. It was very difficult on all of us as my mom, sister Beverly, dad and Kevin’s girlfriend Mary were openly sobbing uncontrollably in the hours after we all let what happened sink in. By the grace of God, I was able to keep it together fairly well and perhaps it will take some time to sink in fully. Eventually we had to say goodbye to Kevin’s body and have the assurance that we will see him again someday in heaven. For now, we’re gonna get some rest and plan for a special memorial service for Kevin on Friday. On behalf of my entire family, THANKS again for all your wonderfully kind comments and sincere concern. God bless you all!

MEMORIAL GIFTS: Many of you have written to me asking where flowers or charitable donations can be mailed in memory of my brother Kevin. Since he loved children throughout his entire life dedicating himself as a mentor to youth at his local church, please make donations to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

There are three ways you can contribute:
1. DONATE ONLINE
2. MAIL TO St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
3. CALL TOLL-FREE 1-800-805-5856

THANK YOU again for your generosity to St. Jude in Kevin’s name.

  • Your faith is beautiful to behold at a time like this. 🙂 May God give you and your family comfort and remind you that Kevin is safe and happy and no longer in any pain – he has his new and wonderful spiritual body. There is an analogy in the Bible that the seed (this body) has to die in order for the new plant (spiritual body) to emerge. It is the same in nature with seeds and plants. There is more than one analogy in the Bible about seeds and planting, etc.

I’m so happy you were there with Kevin and went over good memories. Also glad you were there for your family. So sad. I’m very sorry for your loss and wish things had been different. So happy for you, though, that you overcame your genes and will continue to help others avoid such a tragedy.

Jimmy, knowing your loved one is near the end isn’t the same as being prepared for that end. Just went through a similar experience with my mother. Painful beyond belief. I’m so sorry for the loss of your brother. You will miss him for the rest of your life here on earth. But in time, God does bring healing and the pain softens. And in the meantime, many friends are praying for you and your family. I hope you can feel those prayers.

Jimmy, this is sad news. You have my deepest sympathies. May God confort you and your family during this time. Remember John 11:25

I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies

  • Dana

I am so sorry to hear of your brother’s passing. I know you’ve been worried about him for a long time now. I guess you could say that you don’t have to worry so much about him now, he’s in good hands.

Even while he was in pain it was a blessing for you to be able to see him one more time. I had hoped to be with my grandfather when he passed almost a year ago but to no avail, I simply lived too far away. You are luckier than you know. And lucky in another sense–you learned something from his mistakes and God willing, will have many more years ahead of you as a result. I’m sure he will be looking out for you meanwhile.

  • I am truly sorry to hear about your brother. I know you believe like I do that he is in a better place and a place without pain with a renewed body. May you have peace as you mourn his passing.

  • cgkane
