NBC Is Making It A Family Affair With ‘Biggest Loser’ 6

Biggest Loser Diet Club – Sign Up Now

“The Biggest Loser” is back for Season 6 starting Tuesday, September 16th

It’s that time again for everyone’s favorite television weight loss reality show on NBC-TV called “The Biggest Loser.” I’m a big fan of this series because it has arguably been a major factor in getting people excited about losing weight and getting healthy again–something America and the world desperately needs at a time when obesity and disease is getting completely out of control. I’ve interviewed many of the former contestants and I can sense a renewed determination to not just maintain their own health, but also help others as they take their own journey, too. This “pay it forward” attitude would have never happened had it not been for the positive impact of this amazing show.

This season is all about the families and will feature teams of spouses competing against teams of parent/child. Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels personally hand-picked all of the contestants in this season, so there will be no squabbling amongst the trainers that one had an unfair advantage over the other. The gloves are off now to see who can help their teams lose the most weight as a percentage of their starting weight.

In Season 5 earlier this year, “The Biggest Loser” introduced the concept of having couples compete as a team against the other contestants. That same concept will work again this season, but with a bit of a twist–the always emotional rollercoaster ride that comes with families will be put to the test going through what will be the most difficult experience of their lives. And if this is anything at all like the FitCamp I just finished up with former “Biggest Loser” contestant Isabeau Miller, these folks are in for quite a ride!

If you just can’t wait until Tuesday night at 8/7 Central to watch the debut episode of “The Biggest Loser: Families,” then have I got a surprise for you! You can go watch the first hour (actually it’s only about 45 minutes of video when you take out the commercials) of the two-hour season premier where you can meet the contestants (including one couple from my neck of the woods here in Greenville, South Carolina!) by clicking here. If you’re like me, you can’t wait to see the new season, so head on over to the NBC web site right now to get your fix RIGHT NOW!

And if you wanna see whether Jillian Michaels is just as tough as ever, take a look at this little 2-minute video of her chastising one of this season’s contestants for falling off the treadmill. NO EXCUSES! One of Jillian’s teams is the mother/daughter Purple Team and you can meet Amy and Shellay in this video.

Don’t think Jillian has a monopoly on the butt-kicking! Here’s Bob Harper taking it to one of his contestants Ed from the Red Team for not giving 100%. But as you’ll see in this video, Ed needs the message that “The Biggest Loser” is trying to send to him more than ever. He’s 41 years old, but his biological age is…GET THIS…54! He can’t ignore this problem anymore and we will be watching his progress this season.

But don’t think you’re just gonna be a spectator this season–NBC is kicking off a brand new effort to help the viewers at home live healthier than they ever have through a special supportive social network they are calling “The Biggest Loser League.” This new venture will allow YOU the opportunity to create your own teams and recruit people from your local community to lose weight and get healthy together. The web site will provide you with the tools and resources needed for team leaders to create motivational messages, grab tips and weight loss tracking widgets, and utilize a tool kit of food journals, workout logs and challenge tips. Teams will also be able to compete against other teams to start living healthier, more active lifestyles while earning points for participation.

Weekly challenges coinciding with what the contestants will be going through each week will also be a hallmark of this effort. The site will include helpful features like profiles, message boards, photo and video galleries and blogs for teams and members, a weight/BMI tracker, exercise, diet and motivational tips and a robust search page to help users find new friends or teams to join. You’ll also have access to welcome kits for captains, leaderboards to track top point-earning teams and members, and special promotions and offers from the NBC store and “The Biggest Loser Club.” Select teams may also be featured online and on their local NBC-TV affiliate. COOL!

So, this season of “The Biggest Loser” is sure to help inspire the nation all over again to live healthy, get fit, and show that truly anything is possible when you put forth the effort to make it happen. Watch new episodes every Tuesday night this Fall at 8/7 Central on NBC.

    Jimmy,
I am really excited about this season of Biggest Loser! Even as much as I know about the show being good TV, it still motivates me to want to push myself and make those healthy changes. I say we start a Fitcamp team. After being a part of fit camp this summer, there is nothing like people joining together for a common goal! I have been working like a crazy person at my new job and have not been able to work out like I would like. My diet has been pretty good and my clothing is getting bigger and bigger! I love it! The school I work at is huge so I walk a ;pt at least! I got the fit camp videos the other day and was showing them to a friend and she was like, “WoW!, I can’t believe that you guys worked out so hard! Thanks for the DVD’s. Tell Christine hi and I hope you guys are doing well.
    Peace,
    Diva

    THANKS Diva! Enjoy your DVDs.

For those of us who embrace a be-kind-to-yourself approach to fitness vs. the punishment-because-you’re-fat variety, please see “The Biggest Loser Challenge is Part of the Problem ? Health and Fitness Advice” at http://www.healthandfitnessadvice.com/the-healthy-skeptic/the-biggest-loser-is-part-of-the-problem-not-a-solution.html.

This article outlines many of the same points expressed by a number of the experts featured at LLVLC. Echoing Gary Taubes’ research regarding the ineffectiveness of exercising to lose weight, this piece states, “When it comes to exercise, ‘The Biggest Loser’ challenge tells us that exercise is a matter of burning calories and fat. While exercise does burn calories – all activity does, even sitting on the couch – burning calories or fat should not be the goal of exercise. Getting exercise should be the goal of exercise. A philosophy of using exercise for losing weight is a fatally flawed philosophy. I’ll repeat this point to make it clear; you should never use exercise as a means to lose or manage your weight.”

Overweight, unfit people, many whom are certainly desperate to lose weight, will get the message that this is what they have to do in order to be successful at losing weight. Many low carb experts have expressed that they do NOT (and Manual Uribe certainly didn’t!). It also feeds the ‘fat people are just lazy’ mentality and that all they need to do is move. And I cringe whenever I see the “I’ll show my body who’s the boss” approach to fitness, because obesity is just so much more complicated than that.

    Katy, I agree.
