In Episode 33 of “Low-Carb Conversations With Jimmy Moore & Friends,” we’re back after a brief break during the Thanksgiving holidays and we’re kicking off December with a bang talking about some of the hottest topics in the world of diet and health. And my co-host Mindy Noxon Iannotti and I have two more fabulous friends to share in the fun with us today! First up we have a registered dietitian named Hunter Copeland from the brand new “Hunting For Health” podcast who understands well why low-carb diets are critical to attaining optimal health. We also have an Ontario, Canada-based healthy living activist named Gary Drisdelle from the “Healthyism” web site who is always eager to share principles that will help people overcome their weight and health concerns. Today we discuss the hot topics of labeling obesity as a disease and a frightening Wisconsin judge ruling that people don’t have a right to eat real food. Plus, as always, we’ve got a couple of fantastic recipes to share at the end. There’s always plenty to talk about on “Low-Carb Conversations,” so pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let’s talk!

Listen to Hunter Copeland & Gary Drisdelle love on low-carb living:

  • An update on Mindy’s 60-day weight loss challenge
  • The improvements in her strength from swinging kettlebells
  • Whether we stayed on low-carb through Thanksgiving
  • Hunter’s search for the right diet for his weight and health
  • The vegetarian-styled low-fat diet that he tried
  • How he transformed to more of a real food-based Paleo diet
  • Gary’s work in the arena of health over the years
  • How his RD wife is stuck in conventional wisdom…but changing
  • Why eating “less” carbohydrates is better, but not the best
  • How low-carb living goes so much further than weight loss
  • Gary’s suggestion for people to give up carbs for 30 days
  • “Start Treating Obesity As A Disease”
  • Mindy’s lack of belief that obesity should be a disease
  • How obesity as a disease takes the power away to solve it
  • Hunter’s analogy of calling alcoholism as a disease
  • Why Gary believes we’re on the tip of what’s right and wrong
  • The labeling of obesity as a disease opens Pandora’s box
  • Hunter’s patient whose doctor put her on grains and no meat
  • Why Gary thinks we are “winning” in the battle of ideas
  • How getting people to buy into the diet to start is the key
  • Whether it’s good to speak up about health and nutrition
  • “WI Judge: No Right to Produce or Eat Food”
  • Mindy’s stunned response that you can’t eat what you want
  • Why this can’t be happening in the United States of America
  • Hunter’s “Come On Man” thoughts about this “crazy” ruling
  • Gary pointing out raw milk activist Michael Schmidt as example
  • Why people should be allowed to consume what they want to
  • Hunter’s frustration with poor diet guidelines vs. real food
  • Gary’s “Tortilla Wrap (Without the Tortilla!)”
  • Hunter’s “Tossed Spice Chicken Thighs”
