LLVLC On YouTube (Episode 74): Is The Scale Stuck? The Top 7 Reasons Why You May Not Be Losing Weight!

Is that blasted “TruthoMeter” scale telling you you’re fat?

It’s Day 3 of my special edition “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube” video blitz this week and we’ve been having so much fun showering you with video after video about the healthy low-carb lifestyle. And probably the most common reasons people begin low-carb living is for one thing and one thing only–WEIGHT LOSS! They’ve heard about all the amazing success stories of people who have implemented this way of eating in their life and they get all excited about doing it for themselves. But then…little to no weight loss at all! What the heck is going on?!

In Episode 74 of “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb On YouTube”, Christine and I hear from people all the time about this subject and wanted to address seven possible areas which might explain why you’re not losing weight. This is by no means an exhaustive list of reasons why you aren’t seeing the scale move, but you might recognize a few of these in your own routine that need to be adjusted. It’s not the end of the world if you are doing everything like you are supposed to and the scale is not moving the way you expect it to (back to those unreasonable expectations we’ve previously talked about) when you remember the end goal of your low-carb eating plan is to be healthy. Shedding fat is merely a side effect of consuming healthy low-carb foods and attaining optimal health is the first priority.

Watch today’s video to see if your low-carb diet is hung up on any of these 7 things:

Watch all 75 of our YouTube video series if you wanna be educated, encouraged, entertained, and energized to start livin’ la vida low-carb like you never have before. This is much too important a topic for you to ignore, so I hope you can invest the time and energy into watching all of what we share each week on the show. Christine and I appreciate the hundreds of brand new subscriber to our video series in the past couple of months and hope that many more of you will sign up to get the new ones as they get posted to YouTube. E-mail us anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. THANKS so much for supporting the work we are doing with the videos.

Three videos down, one more to go tomorrow before we leave on our trip to Florida!

Personally, I find any diet that causes me to “restrict” any section of the food pyramid to be too harsh to be realistic. The only real success I’ve had with getting healthy, and feeling great while getting there, has been adopting the “Eating Clean” technique. Have you heard of it? It’s more of a lifestyle than a diet, which involves eating 5 to 6 small meals per day (every 2-3 hours), all which include lean protein and complex carbs. One eats clean by avoiding all over-processed, refined foods and sugars, artificial sweeteners and preservatives… you know, the kind of stuff that you regret eating hours after you’ve consumed it! It’s almost common sense really. To me, the real difference in Eating Clean is, it’s a set of principles to follow and not a: calorie-OR CARB-counting, weighing portions on tiny kitchen scales or going to sleep hungry and skipping breakfast regime. I don’t feel the least bit deprived (in fact I’m eating more than ever) and I’ve been able to maintain weight loss for the first time in years. I have one person to thank for this- Tosca Reno! She created The Eat-Clean Diet and her Eat-Clean Diet Cookbook is delicious! She most recently came out with a new cookbook- The Eat Clean Diet for Men, which is filled with recipes that are tasty, easy and packed with added benefits. Tosca Reno gets it. Real men eat food. You’ve really got to check her out!

I think you can “eat clean” and make it low-carb to make it even better. Livin’ la vida low-carb does not completely restrict anything that you body needs. It simply reigns in the foods your body can certainly do without–the ones that drive insulin which leads to fat storage, inflammation, and disease. And it’s the carbohydrate sources that do all of that. NO THANKS!

I can appreciate how many different diets will allow someone to lose weight …. if they can stick with them. I gave up on all diets that came out of a book and now follow a menu plan that takes out all fast food, processed food, sugar, white stuff, etc. You get the picture. My life changed when I joined Snap Fitness, hired a personal trainer for the first time in my life and am following what most of you might think is the most boring meal plan in the world. Protein, veggies, fruit, water and the starchy carbs are few, only whole wheat bread (and not much of that either), wild rice (about 1/2 cup, not everyday), sweet potato and well, you got the picture. This may sound boring, but I am losing my craving for junk and feel better than I did 20 years ago, so I’m going to make this my lifestyle. After all, who cares about food when you can look and feel great in your clothes!! Linda

5 to 6 meals a day is not a good choice for diabetics. You will never get your metabolism stoked with so much eating time. And you do need to restrict parts of the food pyramid since GRAINS are not a good food to put in your body. Fats play a minor role in that misguided pryamid and need to be added to the diet in a big way. ‘Clean’ is the only way to eat. I’m Low carb ala Atkins inside the clean Warrior diet.
Instead of cutting back on ‘too much’ protein- increase your strength training if you can. Increasing strength and muscle mass (don’t worry you will not beome a freak) is a good place for glucose to go and burn away from tyour blood. And sorry Jimmy but don’t eliminate cardio- cut back to every other day or twice a week. It rerally is a great way to increase your ability to burn sugar (even at rest).
