LCC (Episode 45): Ramona Graham & Craig Meek On Gastric Bypass For Diabetes & CO2 Makes You Fat?

NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: http://cmp.ly/3

In Episode 45 of “Low-Carb Conversations With Jimmy Moore & Friends,” we are so happy to be back after being off for a few weeks. Well, half of us are back. My co-host Mindy Noxon Iannotti is still recovering from some surgery she had done the week I was at PaleoFX in Austin, Texas and she was hoping to be well enough recovered by now to join us again on the podcast. Unfortunately, about an hour before we were set to record the next three episodes Mindy called me saying she was not feeling well enough to give it a go. But the show must go on and I’ve got some fabulous guest friends who helped fill in the gap for us while Mindy is away. I had a fantastic time talking to one of my low-carbing Facebook friends Ramona Graham and a BBQ blogger Craig Meek from the “Memphis Que” blog about lots of great recent health headlines including the one about how gastric bypass surgery will “cure” diabetes (yeah right!), a study showing that eating white rice increases your diabetes risk (intriguing), the claim that a high-fat diet makes diabetes worse (UGH!) and this new obesity theory claiming that it’s carbon dioxide that makes you gain weight (don’t breathe too closely to me!). Plus, don’t miss Craig’s Roasted Chicken Recipe and Ramona’s many uses for almond flour in low-carb dishes at the end of the show. Get ready, get set, let’s do this today. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let’s talk.

Listen to Ramona Graham & Craig Meek opine on health headlines:

  • Why Ramona goes by the moniker “Grahamcracker” on FB
  • Her grandfather invented the graham wheat
  • Her foray into strict vegetarianism that made her sick
  • How the blood type diet got her into eating meat again
  • Her mother’s low-carb weight loss that inspired her
  • How she started reading all the diet/exercise books
  • The influence of Fred Hahn‘s Slow Burn on her
  • How incredibly quick you feel it lifting weights slowly
  • Craig and his wife ate vegetarian after Fast Food Nation
  • The birth of his blog testing the BBQ joints in Memphis
  • “Study: Weight-loss surgery might curb, cure diabetes”
  • Ramona’s shock at this kind of assertion
  • Craig noted high blood sugar that leads to obesity
  • Doctors all discourage eating low-carb for diabetes
  • There’s no money to be made in making diet changes
  • “Eating white rice daily ups diabetes risk, study shows”
  • The notion that white rice is a “safe starch”
  • The only way to know if rice is right for you is to test
  • The best measurements for your health is a glucometer
  • Ramona has never tested her blood sugar
  • She can “feel it” when her blood sugar goes haywire
  • Jimmy’s series of n=1 blood sugar tests on my blog
  • White rice responds the same way in the body as sugar
  • Testing foods like sweet potatoes and raw milk
  • “High-fat diet raises complication risk in diabetes”
  • The patients didn’t get adapted to high-fat, low-carb
  • You must become keto-adapted or saturated fat is harmful
  • The “small army” of people responding to the nonsense
  • Why it’s important for people to start more podcasts
  • “New theory: CO2 makes you fat”
  • You can create practically any hypothesis from data
  • Tom Naughton’s “Science For Smart People” video
  • Craig’s Roasted Chicken low-carb recipe
  • Ramona’s experimentation cooking with almond flour
  • She never “cooked or baked” before starting low-carb
  • Would you ever eat a pork doughnut?
