Join Me And Other Sugar-Fighters On January 16, 2009 For The Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge

Commit to going sugar-free during this special global event this week

When I decided to begin my low-carb weight loss journey on January 1, 2004, one of the primary platforms of my strategy for being successful was to completely get rid of sugar in my diet. While it may sound impossible, especially to those of you who are addicted to sugary sodas, snack cakes, and other sugar-filled foods, it is a goal worth reaching for and achieving.

Kicking my own severe sugar habit–which included 16 cans of Coca-Cola a day plus whole boxes of Little Debbie snack cakes on a regular basis–was an instrumental part of my monumental 180-pound weight loss in one year. And now YOU have a chance to make that same commitment yourself with a special event coming this Friday.

It’s called The Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge and sponsored by my fellow sugar-shunning blogging buddy Connie Bennett, author of the thoroughly researched and well-written SUGAR SHOCK!: How Sweets and Simple Carbs Can Derail Your Life–And How You Can Get Back on Track. She hosts a “Gab With the Gurus” Radio Show on Blog Talk Radio and will be having a parade of outstanding guests for her special show coming Friday, January 16, 2009 beginning at 12:00PM EST.

“We want to draw attention to the many health hazards from over-consuming sugar and refined carbohydrates, including type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer and heart disease,” Connie said about this event.

She’s hoping that people who are addicted to sugar and are looking for help to overcome their addiction will participate in The Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge as well as health and wellness professionals who give sugar addicts the assistance they need to overcome. We know from this recent blog post that sugar addiction is just as strong as hard drug addiction, so it stands to reason that aggressive strategies for defeating this are sorely needed. And there will be plenty of expert guests on Connie’s show to help with this.

The Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge has a three-fold mission:

1. To wake people up to the truth about the huge amounts of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, other sweeteners and simple carbs that they consume–often without knowing it.

2. To teach people about the many dangers of sugar overloading, which could lead to more than 100 health problems, including obesity, heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, sexual dysfunction, Alzheimer’s disease, failing memory, mood swings, depression, anxiety, severe PMS, heart palpitations, acne and premature aging.

3. To motivate challenge takers to either kick sugar and other sweeteners entirely on Jan. 16 or to begin phasing out that day so that they can lose weight, feel and look more youthful, boost their energy, diminish depression, concentrate better, rev up their sex drive and improve their general health overall.

So, who will be appearing on the show? Dr. Nancy Appleton, Ann Louise Gittleman, Roberta Ruggiero, Dr. Larry McCleary, Steven J. Bock, M.D., and Dr. Scott Olson who I just interviewed on my podcast show this week. Connie has also asked me to join her on this show to talk about my sugar-free success story and I’m honored to share in this event.

This will be the first time that a worldwide event has been held to draw attention to the massive amounts of sugar that the typical person consumes, which is about 170 pounds a year or one cup a day every single day for the average American and the same overseas. The Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge is also the first time authors of anti-sugar books have gathered together all in one place to warn people of the dangers of sugar consumption.

If you are unable to make it LIVE for this special podcast radio show on Friday, January 16, then you can listen later at Connie Bennett’s “Gab With The Gurus” show on Blog Talk Radio. If you are a Twitter fan, then you can participate in the 24-hour long TwitAsYouQuit campaign on Twitter beginning January 16 at 12:00PM EST until January 17 just before the podcast airs. This is specifically for dieters, sugar addicts, diabetics and hypoglycemic will support each other via tweets as well as frequent, supportive, motivating tweets containing tips from all the authors appearing on the podcast.

Connie admits that there will be a wide variety of views that will be heard during the podcast to give the listeners a chance to make an informed decision about what to do for themselves.

“During the Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge on the Gab With the Gurus Radio Show, you may hear differing points of view from the sugar experts about how, why or how long you should quit sugar, but you’ll get ample information to allow you to make a decision that works for you. For instance, you’ll get opposing views as to whether you should kick cold turkey or gradually.”

Nevertheless, all of the experts universally AGREE that Americans eat WAY too much sugar and that is leading to obesity and diseases that could be easily prevented by eliminating it from their diet.

Join me, Connie, and all the other guest speakers in the Great Worldwide Sugar-Out Challenge this Friday by visiting the official web site GabWithTheGurusBlog.com and post your comment about how you’ll be participating. Be a part of this historical event.

    Hi Jimmy,
I think it is about time that sugar be identified as an addictive substance, but I feel it’s in combination with fat (or in soda’s case, the complex flavors) that pushes it into the ‘drug’ category. I, for one, have never drooled over a 5 lb. bag of Dixie Crystals by itself, but have gladly cleaned out the bowl leftovers after Mom made cookies. I know for sure the foods with the most sugar make me want to eat more. Witness the amount of sugar found in hamburger buns from all the big burger joints.
Going sugar free is about the best choice anyone can make, thin or thick.
