But I'm not buying you can't lose weight again on low-carb if you already did it once. The fact it worked so well for you the first time shows your body is metabolically ready for reacting positively to carbohydrate restriction. Keep at it and you'll see the results not just in your weight but your health, too. And by all means, DON'T STOP THIS TIME! :)

I’m sorry you’re having trouble, bookworm. It IS true for some people that it does not work nearly as easily on subsequent times. I did it over 4 years ago and the weight dropped off like magic. I regained it plus 10 and now I am on Atkins again to lose it and want to change my lifestyle to keep it off. I have been on it for 6 weeks and have only lost 7 pounds - and that in the first 2-3 weeks. I am not eating "hidden" carbs. I recently got some ketostix and got a positive test result (moderate). I am going on the kekwick fat fast this week to try and break through this wall.

I am living the one golden shot with Atkins. Try the ketogenic version, so keep the carbs well below 20 grams per day for at last 2 weeks, after which even persons with extreme metabolic resistance (often from previous medications) start losing and are in ketosis. Also, beef up vitamin intake (C, B complex, cod liver fish oil, garlic, chromium) and try to exercise a little more.

In my experience, these measures are sufficient to mobilize fat-burning. After a while and losing weight nicely, add in some more selected, healthy carbs from green, leafy veggies.

I coached a few people (especially in the UK) with extreme metabolic resistance and indeed they had to follow the ketogenic version of this dietary regimen for over a year (without any problems whatsoever, incidentally). But then they had to lose a lot of weight, and got it off. After going to the maintenance phase, they kept it off ever since.

n-watch and wigs: try to add more fat and perhaps somewhat less protein. However, I noted that I developed some areas where I was crossing the line and it has a hard habit to break. For example, 1n 2003, I completely abstained from the "low carb" energy bars, and 7Eleven coffee without the sweetened vanilla capuccino shot. Also, I was using the BodyFlex exercise in 2003 when I started the Atkins induction stage, and now had reduce it to 1 or 2 times per week. So, these are little things that creep in and influence the low-carb effect. While going thru this self-analysis, and doing research about the avian flu, I discovered the low-carb food: sauerkraut. Avian flu, 7Eleven and Sauerkraut

I am going through this second time battle now and I must admit it’s harder than it was the first time several years ago. I lost 20 lbs and was doing amazing. I looked great. I was walking 2-3 miles per day on my treadmill. I want to get back on track but can't seem to make it thru one day. I don't know why I'm doing this to myself. I know how to do this, I did it for a year. Every time I lose weight I do this and I just can't figure out why. I've eaten my way back up the scale eating sweets, breads, everything bad for me. I want to look, and more importantly, feel great again the way I did before when I was on program. I just hope I can get through 3 days because I know from experience that after that my cravings will go away. I really hope it's not true that this only works the first time around but I am not sure how to stay on low carb for life. I love to cook and bake and I always fall back into baking cookies or cake for my kids and then eating it. I am fine until a holiday comes up and then I say, ok just for today I'll have what I want, then I slip. Eventually I get back on track but this time it's been over 2 months. Last time it was my surprise 40th bd party and there was cake and of course I ate it. I need serious help. Well, thanks for listening, wish me luck!

I have recently fallen off the South Beach wagon and can’t seem to get back on track no matter what I do.
