Lovable low-carb Linda’s husband facing some major health concerns

If you have been following a low-carb diet and embarked on an Internet search for some scrumptious new recipes to enhance your healthy lifestyle change, then I’m sure you have come across the wonderful Linda’s Low Carb Menus & Recipes web site created by a Texas woman named Linda Genaw. Christine and I had the privilege of meeting Linda and her husband in February when they were kind enough to give us a ride from the Houston airport down to Galveston port for our low-carb cruise to Mexico and then again back to the airport at the end of the cruise. We were privileged to chat with and get to know these wonderful people a little bit in the rides back and forth and were so grateful for their generosity towards us.

Linda has been a very faithful moderator at my “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Discussion” forum since its inception in 2007 and I am so happy to have her sharing so many delectable low-carb recipes there while being one of the people responsible for watching the forum for me when I’m not there. She is one of the truly nicest people you will ever meet in your life which makes the circumstances she is currently going through all the more difficult to swallow. Linda started sharing about the health decline of her husband on her web site updates page recently.

Known for her prolific recipe listings which numbers well in excess of 1,000 now, Linda noted at the very end of September that her husband “found out that he’s going to need a liver transplant” that leaves them with the prospect of paying for some “huge medical bills in the next year or two.”

“I’ve had to drastically cut back on my grocery budget which doesn’t leave much money for cooking experiments,” Linda explained. “I do have some recipes that I’d like to try in the next few months but I won’t be able to try nearly as many as I’d like.”

Looking on the bright side of things, she said that all the recipes she does post in the near future will be “very economical to make.” Ever the optimist! She humbly requested “your prayers during this very scary situation” in her and her husband’s life. Those prayers are certainly needed urgently right now as Linda’s husband took a sudden turn for the worse last Thursday when Linda had to call for an ambulance to take him to the hospital because he was coughing up blood. They put him in intensive care where he has stayed for the past several days.

The doctors controlled the bleeding and moved Linda’s husband to a regular room by Friday, but he was still very weak. On Saturday, a physical therapist came in to help him get up walking again after this incident. Linda says they are scheduled to go for a liver transplant evaluation in a week to see where he will be placed on the waiting list. Linda says his doctors remarked that this bleeding episode will “definitely place him much higher on the list.” Now more than ever, this couple needs your prayers and any financial support you can provide to them during this most difficult of times.

If you would like to help them through this trying circumstance, then click on the DONATE button below and do your part to show them how much you care about them right now. I know it would mean the world to Linda and her husband to be encouraged by literally thousands of low-carbers who are willing to help them financially and through prayer without ceasing as they face the giants that life is throwing at them. Let’s be there for this dynamic woman and her ailing husband who is battling for his life right now.

For all that Linda Genaw has contributed on behalf of the low-carb community for so many years, isn’t the least we can do for her right now is be there to offer even the slightest bit of comfort, encouragement, and support when she needs it the most? My hope and prayer is that you will be moved to give sacrificially and willingly to someone who has done so much without ever asking for a dime for the thousands of hours she has invested into creating great-tasting low-carb recipes that so many people enjoy everyday. THANK YOU in advance for blessing Linda and her husband with your gifts.

Even if you can’t give because of personal financial difficulties right now in your own life, then at least take a couple of minutes to send an e-mail to Linda thanking her for all that she has done for people who are livin’ la vida low-carb, letting her know you are thinking and praying for her during this time with her husband’s health, and providing her with the encouragement that you would want if you were going through something similar. You just have no idea what kind of impact this will make on her and it doesn’t cost you a single dime! God bless you guys for being a blessing to someone who has blessed so many of us through her selfless service over the years. Let’s flood Linda with e-mails and donations galore!

I WILL donate to Linda and her husband. Linda has really helped me through the years. She and her husband are in my prayers.

Its time for us ALL to support universal health care so that NOBODY has to have fundrasiers for medical care.

THANKS for caring enough to give, Lisa! And if it’s possible to provide health care to everyone without breaking the bank, then I’m all for it, too. :) God bless you.

  • Cherry

Going to donate. Although I barely know who she is, I am sure that this money will go to a worthy cause.

  • Being on a fixed limited income, I don’t have a lot to donate, but I was thinking that if all of us who have used Linda’s free recipes gave even a little, it would greatly add up! I really appreciate all the wonderful recipes I have gotten from her, so yes, I will donate, and also pray for an excellent outcome for her husband.

THANK YOU Loretta! I agree, if nearly all of my readers who see this give just a few dollars, then Linda and her family would garner tens of thousands in the coming days that would help soften the blow of the bills that are to come. I appreciate your sacrificial heart and know that you will be blessed for doing this. God bless you!

This is proof of the need for universal health care. Universal health care won’t take away your right to see top docs Jimmy; but it will help the vulnerable in times of need.

Like I said, if doing this doesn’t bust the national budget, then I’m all for it. But I think the price tag for such care could pose some serious financial implications down the road. Let’s open up health insurance to competition across all 50 states rather than forcing people to buy a policy in the state they live in. Competition brings prices down to a reasonable rate to get the superior healthcare coverage that so many people love and enjoy right now in the United States without allowing the government to grab full control of the system. What government-run anything has thrived in the years after they have taken it over? (*crickets*) Let’s keep health insurance and coverage in the hands of the private sector and let the free market forces fix this mess that government regulation has created.

I’m moved to tears that people all over the world are donating to help my brother. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Janet, I only met Jerry for a few moments on that car ride to and from the Galveston port in February, but I am so sorry to hear what he is going through right now. Linda is a very special woman in his life and she is beloved by so many low-carbers around the globe who are more than happy to be there for her during this time of need. We pray for the best with Jerry and his liver transplant and wish peace on your family through this difficult time. God bless you!

    Thanks LIndaSue!

And thanks to Jimmy for posting this appeal! Not all forum sites are so supportive of causes outside of themselves!
