Help FitCamper Kim Townsend Raise Money For Breast Cancer 3-Day Event

Kim Townsend raising money for Breast Cancer 3-Day event

One of the most incredible aspects of my recent trip to Nashville, Tennessee for FitCamp with former “Biggest Loser” contestant Isabeau Miller was all the amazing people I got to meet there. You saw them on those YouTube videos giving it their all each and every day for those two weeks and it epitomizes the enormous character that these wonderful women possess. The proof of that for at least one of the FitCamp participants is proven by something she will be doing in November.

Kimberly Michael Townsend is one of the sweetest and most beautiful people inside and out you will ever meet. She worked hard at FitCamp and pushed herself beyond even what she thought she was capable of. But now she’s pushing to do something even better–a NEW challenge coming Thursday, November 6, 2008 when she will embark on a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. It’s called the Breast Cancer 3-Day which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last quarter century has been touched by grant from this remarkable organization. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer and Kim has been working tirelessly to help with that goal.

This is a fundraising event and Kim needs our help to reach her goal of $3,000 which she is about $1,000 short of currently. We can all give SOMETHING, so consider making a $1, $5, $10, or higher donation to help her out with this very admirable cause. They’re looking for a cure for breast cancer and the money raised at these kind of events is crucial to coming closer to that goal.

For Kim, this hits close to home because her own aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. She had to have a partial mastectomy, which, as you can imagine, is devastating all on its own. This was what lit a fire within Kim to do this 3-Day Walk event. But even since committing to it, she has met and heard stories from countless number of people who are suffering and fighting for their lives which reassured her that more than anything she wanted to be a part of this cause. She is concerned that one day it could be her mother, her sister, her best friend or even herself, so she knew she had to do something!

Currently, one in 8 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer unless a cure is found. Won’t you help Kim fight this cause? DONATE ONLINE to support Kim and her “Mississippi Girls” walking team or you can download this form to mail in your contribution or you can call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone.

On behalf of my friend Kimberly Townsend, THANK YOU for helping out with the Breast Cancer 3-Day event!

    Kim,
I want to contribute to your success (especially since I don’t have to do the walking! LOL ) Please end me an e-mail via my blog to where to mail the donation or if you have a Paypal that would make it even easier!

Kim, THANK YOU for doing this walk and helping this cause. People in my life have been touched by this disease, and I’m considered high risk myself. If it hadn’t been for organizations like the Komen Foundation, I would have never been able to afford the testing and treatment I received to diagnose my problem. I may not even be here today if it weren’t for the funding to help uninsured women with preventative care. This is a cause that is close to my heart and I applaud you for doing your part! You can bet I’ll be donating to help you reach your goal!

Thanks for sharing this with us Jimmy!

    Thanks Diva and Amy!
My life too has been affected by the horrible effects of cancer. My aunt, my mom’s oldest sister was diagnosed in 2007, and it was so horrible to hear for all of us. Right now, she has a clear bill of health but they are keeping a close eye on her after her partial mastectomy last year. Her cancer was noted in a medical journal b/c it was SO rare. There were 7, yes 7, different types of cancer in the mass they extracted.
Since starting this journey, raising money and prepping for the walk, I have heard SO many stories. I’ve had complete strangers hug me at fund-raisers I have done and they’ve reached out and shared their stories. Those stories are what has kept me going more than anything… to know that one determined person can make a difference, even if it’s a small one.
Thanks Amy for your story and your support! ..as well as my fellow fitcamper, Leslie. With friends and supporters like you guys, anything is possible!!!
ALSO, if anyone is interested in adding a loved one to my “In HONOR OF” shirts, send me an email with their name at kimmy1164@yahoo.com. It can be someone that is fighting cancer, is in remission, or that has passed on. I thought it would be good to have those I’m doing this for ‘with me’ on the walk:)

Thanks to everyone that is reading and supports breast cancer awareness and research:) Next month is breast cancer awareness month so don’t forget to contribute in one way or another:) Remind your loved ones to get tested… It could save their lives or yours!!!
    love to all,

    kim
