Fun-Filled Friday: Obama Nobel, T-Pain, Beyonce Clown, Office, Bird, McD’s, School, Blues, Evolution Of Dance

Frrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiidddaaaaaaaaay!!! I don’t know what it is about this one day of the week that puts a special spring in your step, but everybody loves Fridays. And here at the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog, we celebrate them by having a little feature I called “Fun-Filled Friday” where I talk about anything and everything that’s on my mind. From current events to really cute videos, I can’t help but share what interests me the most–even if it doesn’t have anything to do with low-carb. Here we go!

You’d have to be living on another planet today to miss the big announcement that our very own President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for 2009 for his call to reduce the weapons stockpiles worldwide and his desire to spread world peace. But even the international press was questioning how they could select President Obama when he hasn’t really accomplished anything worthy of being selected. Interestingly, the 44th President of the United States had only been in the White House for ten days when the Nobel prize selection committee made him the winner, so it seems like he was chosen based on what they HOPE will happen rather than any specific accomplishment by President Obama. That’s such a shame for the hundreds of other worthy nominees who had indeed earned the right to the Nobel prize.

Here’s a scathing Russian news story about Obama’s Nobel prize win:

And even the Associated Press, which tends to be a little more liberal in its news coverage, printed a column entitled “He won, but for what?” while the editorial writers at the equally Democratic-leaning Los Angeles Times state that President Obama “Loses By Winning” because giving him this award “so soon in his term embarrasses him and diminishes the honor.” It’s been interesting watching the reaction from people across the political spectrum today because just about everyone thinks he was the wrong choice. Maybe if he’d been in office a couple of years and did something to instigate real peace, but less than two weeks into his presidency? Very odd.

Here’s what a “surprised” President Obama had to say about this:

You know what would have impressed me the most is if President Obama had walked out on the Rose Garden and shown his gratitude for being nominated–but politely declined since he didn’t feel like he had earned it yet. He could have said something to the effect of “while I am honored and humbled by this prestigious recognition, I would like to continue pursuing sincere efforts to bring about peace in the world for the remainder of my presidency. Thus, at this time I will respectfully decline the distinction this year in the hopes that my future efforts will deem me worthy of the Nobel Peace prize in the years to come.” Man, that would have grown my respect for him so much more had he done that. Nevertheless, I’m pleased to hear the president will be donating the $1.4 million prize that comes with winning the Nobel Peace prize to charity.

Speaking of President Obama, check out this hilarious Jimmy Kimmel Live segment featuring artist T-Pain showing off his new iPhone app using the Auto-Tune technology to create a pretty cool song using Obama’s voice.

I LOVE that! This was pretty darn funny, too, with a woman dressed up in a clown mask starts getting groovy to a Beyonce song with painfully hilarious results.

HA! Poor lady. Do you work in an office with a bunch of cubicles? If so, then you know how cooped up you can feel and all that pent up anger that builds and builds might just explode someday–like it did with this guy!

Can you say having a bad day? Man! Oh, did someone say “bad day?” Check out what this rare bird starts doing to one of the correspondents while host Stephen Fry watches on in utter amusement.

Yikes! That bird was going to town, wasn’t he? I admire talent when I see it, but this video extolling the virtues of the fast food giant McDonald’s seems just a bit ironic, don’t you think?

Wouldn’t it be great if all schools had an answering machine message like this?

That’s just too funny! Can you tell they get inundated with the same crap over and over again? Creative way to get the point across, eh? Ever wondered what the classic song “We Are The World” would sound like sung in a blues style? Check this out from crooner Alvarito Pinto!

Very talented guy! And finally, I’ve got one of the most entertainingly funny six-minute videos you will EVER watch in your entire life. You may have already seen this, but it’s too funny not to share from a very physically fit comedian named Judson Laipply. Dancers and non-dancers alike will appreciate this “Evolution of Dance” routine.

That first one was so popular Judson decided to make a sequel:

Whenever I need a pick-me-up, that’s the video I’ll pull out because it brings a smile to my face every time. That’s it for this “Fun-Filled Friday” but thank you for reading. I’ll be trying to blog some this weekend because there’s just so much going on right now. I appreciate those of you who have been such an encouragement to me through your very kind e-mails lately. You guys are AMAZING! Send me your stuff anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net.

  • Jackson Smith

I just wanted to point out that the office freak out video is not real, it is a promo for the movie Wanted.

    THANKS Jackson! Still pretty awesome.

almost finished reading you comments about Obama but found myself goose steeping around the living room.

Been following you for several years but I’m outta here – not interested in old school white guy right wing christian bull – if I wanted that I could watch Fox and read the WSJ

What exactly is your concern with what I said, Joe? I simply asked the question that was reciprocated by many left-leaning publications like The Associated Press and Los Angeles Times, “Is President Obama the right choice to win the Nobel Peace prize in 2009?” There’s no pretense in asking that question that was one of the hottest topics of debate last week in the news. Instead of slapping a label on the honest question being asked, how about offering up your thoughts on what you believe about it.

    –Jimmy

  • Chris G

Don’t worry Jimmy, true-believer lefties have no capacity for humor pointed in their direction.

In other news, Major League Baseball has awarded Barack Obama the Cy Young award for his first pitch at this year’s All-Star game.

  • Todd in Texas

It would probably be wise to stick to health and fitness topics. Count me as one of those who came by your site looking for information, inspiration and insight around health to be hit over the head with a cynical political viewpoint.

I for one am proud of the remarkable turnaround in the tenor of conversations going on these days in our world community, but not so much in our own domestic community. Our new president has wisely taken us from diplomacy by fear, uncertainty and doubt to one of honesty and pragmatism.

Regurgitating media cynicism on your blog has definitely directed me elsewhere.

Good luck in your future endeavors, especially those which continue to promote health and fitness.

Todd, thank you for your comments, but how did my simply asking a question that several major left-wing news outlets have asked show a “cynical political viewpoint?” I’m just not seeing the connection here. Is the new president supposed to be given a free ride on everything he does without people asking questions? Our previous president was not given this courtesy during his eight years in office.

That said, why can’t anyone explain why they think President Obama was deserving of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize within the first ten days of being in office? That was the very simple question I posed in this post. It’s amazing how such a cut and dry question that so many people are honestly looking for an answer to would instigate this kind of response. Anyone care to take a stab at it without resorting to labeling the intentions?

    –Jimmy

  • Charles

I agree with Todd completely, and I will also be moving on if you choose to continue in this direction. I don’t care how you think he should have replied, or that he should have declined the award. I don’t care what you think about Obama or politics.

That’s fine, Charles. I wasn’t disrespectful towards President Obama in any way and the purpose of this post on my Friday post was simply to allow me to share about things that were interesting to me outside the realm of diet and health. There were no negative opinions expressed politically or otherwise, so I’m not sure what the issue is. Again, nobody is telling me why he was worthy of being bestowed the Nobel Peace prize award after being in office just ten days. What did he do in less than two weeks time to deserve winning this prestigious award? This isn’t a trick question guys. :)

    –Jimmy

  • lynn

    Jimmy

You clearly made lots of political statments such as:

“….when he hasn’t really accomplished anything worthy of being selected”.

“That’s such a shame for the hundreds of other worthy nominees who had indeed earned the right to the Nobel prize”.

” You know what would have impressed me the most is if President Obama had walked out on the Rose Garden and shown his gratitude for being nominated–but politely declined since he didn’t feel like he had earned it yet. He could have said something to the effect of “while I am honored and humbled by this prestigious recognition, I would like to continue pursuing sincere efforts to bring about peace in the world for the remainder of my presidency. Thus, at this time I will respectfully decline the distinction this year in the hopes that my future efforts will deem me worthy of the Nobel Peace prize in the years to come.” – Seriously Jimmy, NOBODY woud turn down a Nobel Peace prize!

Finally, you included videos of people criticising Obama and one making fun of him. A balanced article would have included those for, and those against; his prize.

We all love your writings on health and nutrition. Please, please stick to those.

THANK YOU Lynn! But none of those statements are political in any way. President Obama was in office for ten days when he was selected as the winner of the Nobel Peace prize. Even the AP and LA Times who are very liberal publications supporting the president on just about everything thought that was strange as I provided links to them in this post. And there were MANY more worthy candidates for the prize than President Obama…again, he’d only been POTUS for less than two weeks.

Finally, it would have been BIGGER of him to decline the prize and actually do what he needed to do in the coming months and years to truly be bestowed such a high honor for achieving peace in the world. These aren’t political statements, they’re just analysis of this particular event that happened in the world last week. Actually, Lynn, I couldn’t find a publication at all on Friday that supported Obama winning the Nobel Peace prize. And I didn’t use any news outlets that would show any possible bias like FOX News or Wall Street Journal. I chose liberal stalwarts like Associated Press, Los Angeles Times, and even an international one from Russia Today. This was VERY balanced from what I had to choose from.

What video did I include of people “criticizing Obama and one making fun of him?” The T-Pain video was actually pretty funny and created by a guy who LOVES President Obama. So I’m not really seeing why this is anything worth getting up in arms about. Whether you support President Obama or not, is he just totally off limits to even talk about at all? I’ve been nothing but respectful towards him in my “Fun-Filled Friday” posts and simply ask questions from time to time about the things he is doing because they are interesting and relevant to me outside the realm of nutrition and health. Of all the posts I do all week long, this is the one where I share things other than diet and healthy living. I’m not understanding what the harm is in simply in writing about these things. We all have our own built-in belief system and I think they’ll survive just fine regardless of what we are exposed to.

THANK YOU for reading my blog and I’m glad you enjoy the information I provide here (sans the FFF stuff!). :D

If this was President Bush (senior or junior) getting this award after two weeks in office, the left would have been out demonstrating in the streets and in Stockholm in protest. It really just points out how meaningless the Nobel Peace Prize really is. They gave one to a terrorist – Yasser Arafat, so this award has been a joke for a long time.

  • John K.

Don’t worry Jimmy, you’re allowed to have your opinion as long as it fits the lefts idea of what it should be. : )
I fairly new here and have gotten alot of good info from you as well as other books and resources. I for one agree with you, so see, you loose a few and gain a few.
Besides, the majority of people feel the same way you and I do. Cheers!

I heard that Barack used the Ice Maker on the White House Fridge and won the Stanley Cup!

  • AJP

    Jimmy

    Keep up the good work.

It is always a hoot to see the champions of tolerance practicing it themselves.

  • OnPoint

Jimmy, I know I’m late weighing in on this topic.

As a Democrat and an Obama voter (primary and general election), I have to say I didn’t think he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize either. It may have been a disservice to him at this point, b/c it lessens his stature relative to the honor. The world doesn’t take awarding him this prize seriously.

It’s weird . . . I expected so much more from Obama, and criticizing his policies has lead to some pretty heated arguments. Whatever!

Honduras. Miissile defense. Iran. North Korea. Afganistan and General McChrystal. A stimulus I agreed with until I found out most of the money would not be spent until well after the recession has corrected itself. A healthcare plan that has already proved distrastrous in Massachusetts and Tennessee, and that leaves millions still uncovered. The devalued dollar due to ballooning deficits and unrestrained money generation. Huh?

The president is so much better and smarter than this. I hope he course corrects soon.

THANKS OnPoint! And that was my point of highlighting the Nobel story. I think people get so wrapped up in their own beliefs that they never stop to observe things from a rational basis regardless of what’s right and wrong. Nobody would have deserved this award after just ten days in office.

You GO, Jimmy! Your comments about Obama were right on target. It’s YOUR blog, and you should be able to express yourself. Why does everyone compare him to Bush? Let’s judge him on his own merits. Oh yeah, there AREN’T any, so we keep having to say stupid things like …”if it were Bush, blah, blah”. I can’t wait for 2012 and he it OUTA THERE.
