Fun-Filled Friday: Lifetime, Weight Loss Haven, Coca-Cow Urine, Jeff Dunham, NFL Wow, Facebook, And Free Song

It’s one of my favorite days of the week–FRIDAY!!!–and I’ve got a full plate of a special Valentine’s weekend worth of “Fun-Filled Friday” stuff for you to enjoy:

I don’t know about you, but I’m beginning to see more and more references to low-carb in television shows and movies than ever before. Maybe it’s because my ears are acutely tuned in for this kind of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a little clip from a Lifetime movie starring teen R&B sensation JoJo and actress Valerie Bertinelli in a fantastic made-for-television flick called “True Confessions of a Hollywood Starlet” last week. The scene he shares with you is where the teen starlet (played by Joanna “JoJo” Levesque) attempts to order a low-carb meal at a fast food restaurant. This scene is HILARIOUS because it’s exactly the kind of scenario real low-carb dieters face when they eat out. Check it out:

Speaking of weight loss, a web site called Weight Loss Haven posted an interview with me this week about my 180-pound Atkins success story this week. I enjoy sharing about my story on sites like this because it shows that low-carb IS mainstream and changing the lives of real people every single day. I love the tag line of this web site: “Natural Weight Loss–Finding What Works For You!”

Speaking of “natural,” did you see this Times Online story about a new soda pop whose main ingredient is…hold on to your stomach…COW URINE?! It sounds like a sick joke or something from “Fear Factor,” but this is dead serious. This is considered a delicacy in India and they assure potential customers it will be a “tasty” and toxin-free beverage because it doesn’t smell like urine. It’s even allegedly rumored to have healing properties for people with ailments like liver disease, obesity and cancer. Ummmm, I think I’ll take a pass. What’s next? Cow moon pie patties?

Who doesn’t like good comedy? I know I do which is why I was pleased to find out about a fabulous ventriloquist/comedian named Jeff Dunham about a year ago. He is one of the most talented comedic acts of our generation and you just have to see him to believe it. My wife and I are going to see him when he visits Asheville, NC in late March (FRONT ROW!) and can’t wait. Jeff posted some “Valentine’s Day E-Cards” this week that are 20-second love nuggets from his most popular character, a cranky old man named Walter. Here are some for you to enjoy right now:

My all-time favorite Jeff Dunham clip is where he introduced a relatively new character named Achmed the Dead Terrorist. You’ll be rolling on the floor laughing at this one (“SILENCE…I KILL YOU!”):

Continuing with the video trend, my friend Pete Thomas who was the $100,000 winner on Season 2 of “The Biggest Loser” posted this video on his Facebook page yesterday and I thought it was pretty cool. Of course, it’s mostly FAKE, but quite inspiring featuring some of the most popular NFL football players promoting themselves to Fantasy Football fans:

Speaking of Facebook, my “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore” podcast producer Kevin Kennedy-Spaien started a brand new “fan group” for listeners of my show. If you want all the inside scoop and happenings with the show, then subscribe to this group. I’ll be popping in over there from time to time leaving comments, too.

Finally, with Valentine’s Day coming tomorrow, what better way to get into the mood than by downloading a FREE MP3 copy of one of the most signature love songs of all time: Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” As you spend time with you darling this weekend, have this playing in the background to set the mood. You never know what could happen. :D

You can e-mail me anything that you think might interest me for “Fun-Filled Friday” anytime by writing to livinlowcarbman@charter.net. I hope you enjoy your Valentine’s weekend and we’ll blog at you again soon!

Burger King has a button for low carb and it is nationwide.

I ordered a low carb Double Whopper without cheese. It came with no sauces and in a little bowl about the size of a bun together with a knife and fork.

In the bowl, there were two hamburger patties, a slice of onion, two tomatoe slices and lettuce. I added ketchup myself.

I calculated the meal to be 7.3 grams of carbs and and 44 grams of protein. It would be 3 carbs if you did not add ketchup as I did.

I am so happy I discovered the low carb style as I love Whoppers.

    Jimmy,
I’ll pass on the ‘soda’ too, prefer my iced tea ANYTIME! UGH!
And it’s funny Valerie would be in that she’s pushing some diet ( Jenny Craig?) on tv. I think of living low carb like being left handed ( I have 2 southpaws in the family) we used the same things ( foods & restaurants) but in different ways as the ‘normal’ population. Tomorrow DH is taking me out to lunch at Red Robin. A low carb friend of mine says they are very plan friendly & I”m looking forward to it. If we go out to eat & get a hard time about making changes we politely tell them I need to eat this way for my health & if they won’t accommodate me, then they don’t want me as a customer. And I have walked out of a place to make my point.
    Hugs,
    g

I was catching up on “The Mentalist” the other day where one of the detectives/agents was interviewing an overweight man. He was suspected of killing a pretty girl and lamenting about his lack of luck with the ladies because of his size, but said that there was nothing he could do about it… and the detective said matter of factly he was wrong, that if he ate a low carb diet he would lose weight. I was surprised to hear something other than low fat being mentioned, particularly since it was a such a throw-away line and had nothing to do with the storyline at all.

It’s funny you mention this KD because my wife Christine and I love that new Simon Baker show and have seen every episode. But I don’t remember this. Maybe it was so fast I didn’t even catch it. HA! It REALLY is everywhere, isn’t it? THANKS for sharing!

Don’t be a stooge Jimmy. I like your blog and have been reading it for a while, but your insulated Ugly American attitudfe is showing through.

Just because some nationalistic Hindu party wants to dump western commercial soda products, does not make cow urine a delicacy. It’s just stupidity to say otherwise.

That’s akin to me saying that most Americans live in double-wides and are married to their sister.

    Disappointing . . .

EEEK, RB! Keep in mind this is “fun-filled Friday” and I am just having a little fun. Don’t take it so seriously, my friend. :)

I looked up the name of “The Mentalist” episode I referred to and it’s episode 5 called “Redwood,” in case there’s a website that streams it or it repeats.

I remember this Episode 5, but still don’t remember the “low-carb” reference. YouTube only shows the first three minutes of the show. I’ll have to watch the full episode on CBS.com (actually, I just went there and they don’t have the full episode posted). THANKS again!
