Fun-Filled Friday: Dancing, Telemarketers, Healthcare, PSAs, Disneyland, TV Ads, Meat Eater, Rain, Weight Loss

Okay, we’re back again today with another edition of “Fun-Filled Friday” after my hiatus last weekend to attend my 20-year high school reunion in Tennessee. It was so much fun seeing people I haven’t seen since the late 1980s and reconnecting with those who helped me survive those dreaded teenage years. How about we start off this edition with a little video footage from the reunion?

My high school friend Evelyn took this video footage of the “Dance-Off” between two of our classmates Otis and Tracy showing off their skills doing the popular dances of the 80s. They were both hilarious and pretty darn good for pushing 40 years old! It was fun that they were both good sports about it and Otis said he’d be feeling it the next day (especially after doing “The Worm”). Tylenol anyone?

Speaking of aches, I’ve got to get this off my chest today because it’s been happening WAY too much lately. Although I’m on the National Do Not Call Registry, I’m STILL getting telemarketing calls galore. Today was from the National Rifle Association which is a cause I can certainly believe in and support. But the guy on the other end was OBVIOUSLY reading from a script. Don’t read to me, have a conversation and cut to the chase. When I requested that twice, the guy just picked up where he left off in the script and started reading again. UGH! Finally I told the man I don’t want to be read to and hung up. I found this cute YouTube video about how to handle unwanted telemarketing calls. My experience is they’ll hang up on you if you start asking too many questions, but it might be worth a shot.

The national debate over what to do about healthcare reform has heated up and President Obama and his legislative supporters in Congress are trying to hurry up and pass a government-run system before the August recess. In fact, Michigan Democrat Rep. John Conyers said this week that it is unnecessary to read the 1,000-page healthcare bill before it comes to a floor for a vote:

WOW! That’s shocking, but this issue is too important for the American people to not be engaged in the conversation about the future of healthcare. That’s why a vote on the current bill which President Barack Obama admitted in a conference call with bloggers this week that he hasn’t read needs to be delayed until our representatives have had a chance to listen to their constituents during the August recess. Here is the president defending his reasons for wanting healthcare reform ASAP to CBS News’ Katie Couric:

Here’s another interesting story from CBS News with the GOP position:

Okay, enough of that sad stuff, how about some funny public service announcements that you’ve probably never seen before? HILARIOUS!

HA! Sorry grandma, hot chick, and business jerk! Awesome stuff. Speaking of awesome, get a load of the most unique wedding proposal EVER that actually happened in June 2009 at Disneyland:

That man deserves some brownie points for originality, even if it was a bit cheesy at times. It’s kinda like this tuna commercial in Thailand…cute but a just a little odd:

Odd is what describes this next video perfectly, but I LOVE the ingenuity of this video parody mocking vegetarianism with the self-proclaimed “Meat Eater”:

Hee hee, you gotta love it! Poor kitty. Innovative marketing ads based on read life are some of the best ones ever…like this one for BMW:

Creativity can come in all forms and I enjoy it when it comes artistically from a musical standpoint. Check out this chorus who simulate a developing rain and thunderstorm using only their hands and feet. The first two minutes is unbelievable before the vocals begin, but the entire version of this classic 1980s Toto song is incredible:

And finally today, how about some weight loss motivation for those of you who are struggling wondering if you will ever reach your goal? Check out these people who were in the same boat as you were not that long ago and DID IT!

That’s all for this week’s “Fun-Filled Friday” and I’ll be gone again next Friday for a trip to Indiana to spend with Christine’s grandparents, so we’ll be back with more frolicking good times in a couple of weeks. THANKS so much for reading the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog and we’ll chat with you again soon. I’m almost done with my new book 21 Life Lessons From Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb and it should be out within another month. Feel free to place your pre-order in the link on the left-hand side of the blog. As always, send me your cute and funny stuff anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net.

Thank you so much, Jimmy, for posting the Before n After wt loss video…it was truly amazing! I now have added to my Goals List…someday I want to be one of those on a video like this. And perhaps it will help inspire someone else, like this one did for me!

YOU CAN DO IT, Loretta! Just keep at it and you WILL be the success you deserve to be. :)

I’ve found a very easy way to discourage telemarketers–when the phone rings I look at Caller ID. If I don’t recognize the number … here, come closer, let me whisper … I don’t answer the phone. If it’s that important a message will be left. If the message isn’t important you can delete it without having to listen to the whole thing. Sorry, but it irks me that the ringing of the phone is considered to be a command and people complain about telemarketers when nowadays pretty much everyone has Caller ID and/or voice mail, both quite effective in avoiding the Dreaded Telemarketing.

THANKS Trish! Your plan would work well if I had caller ID or an answering machine. The best plan for me is to just disconnect the home phone since I use my cell phone for EVERYTHING now. :D
