I appreciate the answer. It does make sense. And it really is scary how lies (or, I'll generously call them "misinformation") are taken as truth simply because they are repeated so often they are ingrained in the public consciousness.

Trish...turning down the office thermostat right now...

Thanks, Jimmy and Fred! Your question is a good one as Jimmy said.

The 'work up a good sweat' mantra (like so many other mindless mantras) have been said so many times in the past it is now taken as gospel.

Mark Twian said: "The truth is easy to kill. But a lie well told is immortal." We, as low carb advocates, know this all too well.

But what happens is this - when you sweat, you lose weight -water weight that is. And since so many people are hell bent on the scale going down it seems as if sweating is a good thing for weight loss.

But what we're after isn't weight loss - it's fat loss. And I can tell you that it is VERY hard to get people to understand this.

Shivering actually burns triple the calories of sweating in the same time frame. I'm not suggesting we all sit in the freezer to lose fat, but you get the idea.

The cooler we stay the harder and more intensely we can workout and intensity of effort not volume of exercise is the key to physique transformation.

So, train hard, stay cool Lakeside Trish and everyone else and drink lots of cool water.

I appreciate all of your kind words and support. Be well. Feel free to ask any questions. I'm more than happy to visit Jimmy's site and answer!

Hi Trish! They all make sense and I'm grateful to have read them! I do have one question, though. It's about the keeping cool aspect. Why do so many people "sweat" themselves with saunas and fat-burning suits if it is better to stay cool to burn fat? I don't subscribe to saunas or suits myself, just curious.

Hi Jimmy, thanks for posting Fred’s tips.
