I was on that diet for ten years.  The first phase does not call itself no carbs. In fact, it is similar to the genuine Atkins diet in the way that loads of low carb non starchy vegetables are encouraged.  The diet is actually higher carb than Atkins due to the presence of lots of low fat dairy.  There are no sugars, starches, grains at all. I moved to a more Paleo way of eating, and rather than adding back whole grains, I upped my fat and eliminated dairy.  I stll use a lot of my recipes, I just use other fats beside olive oil and canola, the mainstays of SBD.  The second phase of the diet includes most fruit, grains of course (but no corn), starchy veggies but no white potatoes.
