Christine Goes Low-Carb For Health, Promptly Drops 6 Dress Sizes In A Month

Someone rather special in my life who I love very dearly has begun doing extremely well on a low-carb diet without really trying that hard. It’s the cute and precious woman I call my wife named Christine.

You’ll recall Christine FINALLY took my advice to start livin’ la vida low-carb in mid-May not to lose weight necessarily, but to get her triglycerides to drop. Although she’s on low-carb primarily as a means for improving her health (as so many people like this are discovering!), an interesting side effect has ensued for Christine–WEIGHT LOSS!

I told her that although she doesn’t have a lot of weight to lose, she’ll notice her clothes getting looser and the scale will move down. I’m not so sure she believed me at first, but she’s a BIG believer now!

Without even trying, Christine has now lost a total of 13 pounds and her dress size has gone from a size 14 down to a size 8 over the past five weeks on the Atkins diet. WOW!!!

We have a running bet now that I can get my weight within 75 pounds of hers (considering I used to weigh nearly 300 pounds MORE than Christine, it’s quite a feat!). As of today, I weigh 222 pounds and she weighs 144–78 pounds apart. So she’s ahead for now–BUT NOT FOR LONG!

Click here to learn more about what Christine is eating on her low-carb diet (it may just surprise you!!!), find out what was making her triglycerides soar, and discover how much the woman I married in 1995 weighed on our wedding day (let’s just say she didn’t need to diet!). ;)

    Jimmy,
This is great news to hear about Christine–she must feel great! I’m glad you wrote about her because you inadvertently illustrated an interesting point, something I (a scale-obsessed maniac) and I’m sure some other weight battlers seem to sometimes forget–it may not be the scale numbers that tell the whole story of success–rather, it’s dress/clothing fitting. Look at your darling wife–sure, she’s lost weight livin’ la vida low carb, but jeez, look at how much more exciting a story the size come-down tells! From 14 to 8?? Wow!! She must be so happy!
Tell her to keep up the great lifestyle!
    Adam;-)

Oh, you don’t even know how excited she was the past two Sundays trying on dresses she hadn’t been able to wear in a few years. The woman was radiating with confidence and absolutely LOVIN’ livin’ la vida low-carb. It’s neat to watch someone else go through this, too! :)

Might I ask: How come your wife has not been eating low-carb along with you, since you’re such a believer? If this is too personal a question, please just ignore it. I just find it curious that you’ve had so much success with eating low-carb, but your wife seems to not have been convinced.

  • Jimmy Moore

What a GREAT question, elkit! And I’m happy to address this.

Christine has not had a weight problem in her life. At least not being OVERweight, that is. To her, livin’ la vida low-carb has been about weight loss which is why she viewed it as something I was doing.

However, the more I have been researching the health benefits and sharing with Christine that it’s not just a weight loss diet, but also one that could improve her lipid profile.

Ergo, when her blood work came back elevated in triglycerides, that was the impetus for her beginning low-carb in earnest. It was personal to her then and she knew what she needed to do.

I don’t think Christine not going on low-carb prior to now means she wasn’t “convinced” of the health and weight loss benefits of this diet.

Instead, she needed to see that she had a need to go on low-carb and her high triglycerides was what precipitated that.

Hope this answered your question! THANKS for asking!

Jesus Jimmy! Everybody knows that starvation and weight loss go hand in hand. Your smarter than this. Crash dieting although it can be dangerous generally always results in a drastic, quick weight loss. Perfectly healthy people like yourselves can no doubt do this and reap all the benefits and then adjust there new selves to a more healthy life style and way of eating after this initial thrust. Most or many of us shouldn’t do this because of it’s potential damage to our health. Starvation always works whether you can eat all you want of certain foods or not. This bull got away from you and you wrestled it all the way back down and Christine got on board right with you. Congratulations to you both and keep up the great work but I wouldn’t give all the credit to Kimkins.

Jimmy, if you’re at 222, how many dress sizes have you lost?? – Mr. Fresh

  • Jimmy Moore

Ah, such a funny man, Gary! 8-O

Um, my suit pants are looser…does that count?

  • Jimmy Moore

Tom, I’m definitely not starving on my low-carb diet the Kimkins way. I’m just loving the newfound focus I have found eating this way and am enjoying it tremendously. Like I said before, I’ve needed this.

By the way, Kevin got his scales today and says THANK YOU!!! :)

    > Hope this answered your question!

    Sure does! Thank you, Jimmy!

  • Kay

Congratulations to Christine! I know she must be thrilled!!

  • damedepantoufle

Um.. Sizes 8-14 is NOT 6 dress sizes. It is only 3. Stop exaggerating. Dress sizes in women’s aren’t counted as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5… They either start at 1 or 2 (or 0) and count every-other number.

  • Jimmy Moore

Well, I wasn’t exactly “exaggerating,” but simply subtracting. She was wearing 14s and now she’s wearing 8s.

    14-8=6

Okay, so it’s ONLY 3 dress sizes. Still VERY impressive if you ask me. :)

  • kathyj333

    Tell Christine I said Congratulations.

  • Jimmy Moore

THANKS Kathy! You just did. ;)

  • The Bunnell Farm

Thanks back to your brother. The gift is in the giving. I am Peacock proud that I was able to do this. So I thank you both and Cristine too!

  • Science4u1959

That’s great to hear Jimmy! My congratulations to Christine!

I don’t understand what all the hoopla about ” starvation ” and ” “crash diets ” is coming from . where are your medical links to what constitutes a ” starvation diet ” ? where is the medical science you are so fond of quoting ?
I work in a wound care center – a unit for nonhealing wounds. 95% of our pts have a problem with TOO MANY CALORIES. they are dying from TOO MANY CALORIES. sure we have a few pts that have problems with malnutrition – and then what do we do for them – we push protein , because they are protein deficient and they need adequate protein for wound healing.
the new clinical studies coming out , are showing that TOO MANY CALORIES are more often the problem in the U.S. – not too few .

  • Kevin

I’m glad you are pointing out low-carb’s dramatic ability to radically reduce triglycerides (75% reduction within a few months is common). This is perhaps the most stunningly significant effect of low carb, more stunning than even the weight loss, which should have researchers cancelling all further studies and retiring to the Mediterranean. The greatest 20th century health problem is now solved. This is by definition a revolutionary advance.

So why is the only person talkng about this Jimmy Moore? We need a Michael Moore/Al Gore documentary to spread the news. Isn’t anyone in Hollywood interested in funding such a project? Maybe it’s time for you to propose it to someone out there, Jimmy. This is why I am hoping you will continute to pursue your Hollywood activities, to develop some serious media contacts with the right power players. That is the way you beat entrenched beauracracies in today’s world, by a direct popular appeal through the power of mass media. Hopefully Kimkins will also help get the grassroots information snowball rolling.

  • Jimmy Moore

Kevin, be encouraged my friend. There are SEVERAL obesity documentaries in the works right now which will look at the health benefits of various dietary approaches. The most exciting one in this regard is C.J. Hunt’s “In Search of the Perfect Human Diet.” All the major players in the low-carb community have been interviewed for this groundbreaking film!

  • Gary J

Jimmy, it’s clear that you know little about dress sizes… Reporting in at 228 today.

  • Jimmy Moore

OBVIOUSLY, Gary! Should’ve asked Christine about that first. Oh well.

    I’m at 221 1/2 today. :D
