Jimmy,
Love your site it is a constant help to me. I love watching you and your wife on youtube, you are both too funny!
I had a quick question and wondering what you thought… I see they now have splenda with fiber, would you say it is ok?? (the fiber comes from corn)
Thank you for all you do and keep up the good work!
P.S. You look great in those after pics!
Great idea! I’ll pass it along. See ya on the cruise.
–Jimmy
THANKS Leniece! We appreciate your support for our work.
I am very skeptical about a new “Splenda with fiber” where the source of the fiber is corn. That doesn’t sound very low-carb to me. Plus add to the fact they put in maltodextrin to bulk up the Splenda which is nothing more than a sugar and this sounds like bad news to me.
There are GREAT alternatives to get sucralose (Splenda) with fiber, most notably that I’ve seen is FiberFit created by Karen Rysavy. NO maltodextrin and fortified with FIBER! WOO HOO! Look for it online.
THANK YOU again for your comments, Leniece!
Hey Jimmy!
Congrats on your new, self-hosted blog! I think you’ll love using WordPress. If you have any questions, just let me know!
P.S. Go through your blog settings and enable custom permalinks (Settings – Permalinks). Use one of the common structures that includes the post title. It’s better for search engines (and more human-readable/intuitive).
THANKS Chip!
Jimmy, great website and blog. I’m a longtime Atkins’ follower, and believer, however, I’ve fallen hard off the wagon off and on for 6 years. I’m just now gettin’ up from another hard fall and your site has been inspirational to me and I hope that it will even help me maintain better than I have in the past. While my wife and I are creative cooks we always seem to give in to the temptations of carb-creep, then full-on high-carb meals, and then disaster. I hope that being involved in a community of like-minded people we may resist that urge a little better.
Hi Jimmy,
Congrats on your blog’s new look, thanks to WordPress!!! Love it.
What a change! The new blog is really clean-looking, and you’re right, it’s lickety-split fast! Impressive — and very user friendly!
And I really love your 7 tabs at the top of the page, too! You have a snazzy website. Very cool!
Weird coincidence… It’s interesting that you just switched your blog over to WordPress, because I’ve just been contemplating such a move myself.
Since I’ll be revamping my Sugar Shock Blog soon, with a new name to reflect the broader focus of my blog, I was wondering how or where I should host it.
Although I’ve been pretty happy with TypePad — where I’ve been hosting my blog — I just had discussions with someone about WordPress. So now I’m really curious. Looks like you’ll hear from me privately with questions!
Incidentally, Jimmy, did you really move ALL your entries over from Blogger? Yikes! That’s a lot of work!
Anyhow, congrats on your new site and blog!
Warmly, Connie

Come on over to my REALLY new blog at LivinLaVidaLowCarb.com/blog that has the same WordPress look but it’s hosted on my own server now.

I would like to talk to you about how I found your site was actually through a blog regarding Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating and I see a response from Wally from Michigan.
I and many others from Michigan who are or were prior distributors of Seattle Sutton’s food and were basically put out of business by Wally.
I wondered what your connection is and feelings are of the plan as we all feel used. Including my husband who tried like heck to lose weight but with out success. Thanks Ronda
I have no connection to Seattle Sutton other than I railed against it being an unhealthy weight loss plan at my blog a few years back. Let me know if I can help you in any way.
–Jimmy
Jimmy,
Do you take donations and if so how can one help?
~Danielle
THANKS for your inquiry, Danielle! I have a PayPal account listed under my e-mail address livinlowcarbman@charter.net if you’d like to contribute to the work I am doing here at my blog. THANK YOU so much!
Jimmy,
I’m a first time visitor to your site and I think it’s great! I started Atkins Induction today and it was nice to read about your experience, as well as hear what so many others had to say. I hope I see some results soon enough. I’m getting married in January
Thanks!
Sonali
Welcome Sonali! Work the plan and it will work for you!
Be encouraged.

Jimmy,
Just reading your blog re: insulin troubles. John Berardi PHD (Prescision Nutrition Author, Professor etc) knows a heck of a lot about insulin, including it’s role in weight training (I’ve read tons of newletter/reports by him with technical info that is way over my head).
Might help to shoot him an email about your situation. You can find him easily via google.
Best of luck!
Jason
THANKS for the heads up! I’ll see about getting John on my podcast.
–Jimmy
For millions of people, your low-carb approach is the only thing that will work long-term. I’d like to help get the word out about your sites and your work and help my readers learn more from your blogs.
I’d like to link to your site and post your blogs (with full attribution and links to your site) with your permission Please advise.
Vicki
That sounds GREAT, Vicki! E-mail me sometime because I’d like to perhaps do a podcast show with a representative (YOU!) from Bella Savio.

A special thanks to you, Jimmy, for telling us, the LC World, about Dr. Mary Vernon! I live in the KC area, and now have a February appointment with Dr. Vernon. At last, a Dr. who can ADVISE me on my lc woe!
WOO HOO! Anyone else looking for a low-carb doctor should check out my “List of Low-Carb Doctors” blog. THANKS for sharing, Laila!

Hi Jimmy,
I was looking for the blog that was posted where you interviewed a doctor who implemented the ketogenic diet to his Parkinson’s patients. I commented on it on the forums but then couldn’t find the link.
Thanks,
Mary
I’ve blogged about Parkinson’s disease/low-carb research before a little in this blog post, but perhaps you are talking about my blog interview with Dr. Larry McCleary last year. He wrote a book called The Brain Trust Program where he advocates people eating a low-carb diet for brain health, including those with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. I’ll be featuring a two-part podcast interview with Dr. McCleary coming up in February 2009. THANKS for your comment, Mary!

Hi Jimmy,
Very informative site! I’ve been on Induction for a month with hardly any weightloss. I think it is because of my PCOS/Insulin Resistance diagnosis.
Would the Fat Fast be appropriate for me?
I did lose once before (7 years ago) on Atkins but I have had the IR diagnosis only recently.
Cheers!
Hey Em and THANKS for your comment! You could try the fat fast if you’d like for a few days to see if there is any change in your weight loss. However, if you are following Atkins by the book, then remember all the other strategies he recommended you can try FIRST to overcome a severe case of insulin resistance. Be sure you aren’t allowing any hidden carbs to come into your diet and I’d love to see what you are eating. Don’t lose hope…YOU CAN DO THIS!!
–Jimmy
I looked over your menu, curious about the diet…and to my despair, it was so unhealthy. I am so happy for your weight loss achievment, but a diet with so much fat and meat HAS to be awful for you health. Since checking your diet and website, I have begun the South Beach Diet. I highly recommend it’s suggested menus (ALOT like the atkins…but HEALTHY). You use egg whites (or egg beaters) rather than cholesterol filled eggs. Light and low-fat cheeses, lean cuts of meat…for example..turkey bacon (rather than reg), same with sausage (the taste is so close to the same, I cannot tell much of a difference), lean cuts of meat and LOTS of healthy fresh veggies. I just do not want to see someone overcome such a feat, only to deal with another in it’s place (heart, health issues). Good luck.
THANKS for sharing your comments, Jennifer! I’m happy you’ve settled in on the South Beach diet and I wish you well in your journey. But what is wrong with consuming fat? Stick around and read my blog a while and you’ll see the low-fat diet has been one big ruse.
–Jimmy
I love your site, as you well know. One thing I love is your total honesty (even when I disagree at times)
and that there is no abuse of any kind here – no one posting an opinion or mentioning a problem is ever treated in less than a kind and friendly manner (except sometimes yourself by visitors!) That’s a far cry from some low carb sites I could mention.
Jimmy, would you know if flavored coffees are OK on Atkins? I had some Javana coffee (flavored with chocolate, or orange, or brulée) which I enjoyed immensely. (I’m not referring to syrups – this was just coffee itself.) I could not find nutrition information anywhere, and just hoped they didn’t have added ingredients that would be to my disadvantage.
I don’t personally drink coffee, but any flavorings you should be wary of hidden sugars. Read the ingredients listing and look for any sugars on the nutrition label. That will tell you if it is good for your low-carb lifestyle or not. THANKS for your comment!

Hi Jimmy,
I have been following atkins for a few years now, off an on. I have to say that my lifestyle has me eating out quite often and I have not been able to follow a healthy eating regimine because of this. I have, however, been able to easily follow Atkins. Over these past 5 years I have lost 84lbs only to gain 30 back and now to have lost 20 of those again. Yes, the ups and down do occur, but they have occurred in a more severe wt gain with other lifestyles. Much of my gain has happened because I have gone back to eating the carbohydrates. Low carbohydrate is the only way I have been able to loose. I have a rare T3 conversion deficiency and it is difficult to control my thyroid levels. Atkins helps me loose even when my thyroid is off kilter! My daughter, now 29, has followed Atkins for the past 2 years and has dropped 125 lbs. She is fabulous and she says this is the only way she can keep it off. She still eats some carbs, but in small quantities. The best thing is that she can now exercise because all that horrible weight is gone and she can move. Thank you for all you inspiration. You keep me going!
Denise and Jenn
Wow, what a story! Thanks so much for sharing and keep it going!
–Jimmy
Hi Jimmy
Love the website.
By the way I seem to remember reading something on a Dr Ron Rosedale an article he did & one of your readers was trying to get in touch with him & you were going to assist with finding his address details. Any luck on that one ?
Alex
THANK Alex! I’m STILL trying to reach Dr. Rosedale…it seems he has been traveling out of the country a bit.

hey jimmy – it’s 3:20am..and i’m too pumped about what i found on amazon to wait for the morning to email you…
i just listened to your interiew with dr. carlson and i’m floored – here’s what i posted on his amazon blog but i dont know if he’s checking it anymore – and jimmy, thank god for you
peace
G. Berman says:
Dr. Carlson…dammit jim i’m a doctor (sorry, i couldn’t resist, just saw star trek)…
anyway…PROVIDENCE/SERENDIPITY – this is what has brought me to your blog..i haven’t bought your book yet, because i just found out about it minutes ago – i was searching for info on amazon..and here we are..i’ve been a vegetarian for two years (i eat fish)..and honestly, i don’t look great…i’m 36 196 lbs and i exercise frequently – but not matter what, i look like i have a beer belly…AND I DONT DRINK BEER – i became a vege for social reasons as well as health reasons…but i’ve been second guessing the health reasons – ESPECIALLY after reading your quick intro and your comment on the atkins diet..BUT, FINALLY, HERE’S MY QUESTION – what about The China Study..it seems to catagorically prove that cancer is linked to ingesting animal proteins – i’d love to go back to meat because i’d get back to looking toned…i feel like i have to work out 3 times as hard now…yes, i’m vain – but i dont want to slowly kill myself with food just to look better…please help – and thank you so much for your time…namaste
I’ll make sure Dr. Carlson gets this message, Gabe.

I am a physician diabetic and low carber and was impressed with the on line history form. I help out in a community care clinic and would really like to see the form in spanish. It would help our clinic a lot. Answers would have to be in spanish or english.
See you on the low carb cruise.
Hi Jimmy, How u doing? Thanks for being such an inspiration.
I’ve been trying to stick to low carb for a while now, I suffer from BED and the only thing in this world that can make me stop binging for at leat 3 days in a row is Lo carb, i dont even bother listening to people who say Lo carb is bad or whatever, I know it is not and even if it were I DONT CARE, I preffer dying from a heart attack a 50 than dying now during a binge (I do believe LC is extremelly healthy tho but I dont need to argue with anyone)
Well my point is this, Im still jumping within high fat to High protein, I found that protein is sometimes better for my hypoglicemia and keeps me under control for longer, however High fat is good too but I dont feel so full as I do with protein. Protein however in a larger quantity will cause me a spike.
Im really confused about this, I’d like to give high fat a try again but now Im affreid after reading it can actually trigger Insulin resistense. You know something about this? Can High fat diet actually cause insulin resistence?
Thanks once again Jimmy, keep it up =)
A high-fat diet does not “cause” insulin resistance. Carbs and excess protein can. Keep carbs low, protein moderate, and fat high and you’ll be doing your body a world of good.

Jimmy:
I really enjoy your information about low carb. I am prediabetic and it is the only answer for to prevent the disease…
The information you have on the clinic run by Dr Dawn Hunter is just the beginning of a year long of business theft. It actually started a year ago with Dr. Allen Johnson.. one of his other web sites of his http://www.gotnd.com … another is http://www.advancehcg.com . There is a police report for him in Seattle for selling stolen medical equipmen on Craigslistt. Dr. Allen J Johnson and Aaron Ludtke were the previous owners of http://www.hcg-seattle.com ..I think it was under the name
Lux spa… If you go to google and search Aaron Ludtke prepare for information that is shocking.
Again thank you for your web site…
Lynn
Thanks for the added info.
–Jimmy
Hey Jimmy, Hi again.. Thanks for the last response. You are absolutely right, I’m now eating at least 60% fat and what a change =)
Im trying to go paleo (cooked paleo though) eliminating 1 thing at the time (well haven’t ate sugar, grains or legumes for a long while) and this week is Dairy…. WOW i didn’t feel this bad since i eliminated caffeine o_O
Have u ever heard of dairy adiction? and its withdrawal? Im asking cause you are so involved and you may have heard it from some researcher, doctor or people commenting.
THANKS Mary! Yes, dairy can be addictive because it still has carbohydrates in it. Especially milk which with its lactose is virtually sugar-filled even though it is promoted as “healthy.” KEEP IT UP!!!

Lawash Low Carb Wraps.
I just deep fried these as chips. AWESOME with truvia and cinnamon. UNBELIEVABLE. 4 grams net for like 16+ decent chips. Completely satisfying. I will make chimmichangas (jimmichangas?) tomorrow night.
I am still amazed that in the disappearance of low-carb from the general retail market that low carb tortillas are still very prevalent and in fact i find new brands several times a year.
Any explanations for that? Weird.
Thanks Jimmy. Keep up the good work.
Kent
THANKS Kent! Sure, there’s an explanation for it…food marketers and manufacturers are IDIOTS! Keep up the great work on your healthy low-carb lifestyle.
–Jimmy
I am new at low carbing, very excited about it. I have lost 10 pounds so far. Started for “real” instead of experimenting after Thanksgiving. In your latest pod cast miracle noodles were mentioned. I googled it and found that they are only fiber. Fiber is good for you—I just am hesitant to eat anything that doesn’t have any other nutritional value. Could you tell me more about what you think of them and if they are good during induction. How would you prepare them? People mentioned a fishy taste was this your experience?
Thank you so much for your podcasts, youtube videos and book. Although I don’t have as much weight to lose I started low carbing at 183 I am inspired by all of the wonderful information.
THANKS so much for writing Allison and I’m happy you found low-carb. I blogged about shiritaki noodles several years ago and shared my impressions of them in this blog post. Hope this helps!
–Jimmy
Hi.
I’ve returned to low carb eating for weight loss and general health reasons. However, I have a newly discovered problem with digesting grains including wheat. And, soy is also a problem.
So far, I have been able to moderately use that excellent pasta from Dreamfields and some low-carb tortillas. However, I’m looking for low carb products that are either no or minimal grain based but can be used to replace typical bread products. I’m even considering experimenting making sweet potato and fiber lefse. Is a good tasting low carb no grain muffin even possible? I know this is a puzzler but I was hoping you might be able to help.
Thank you for a great site. I’m working my way through the interviews and enjoying them as well.
Ciao,
Rusty
THANKS so much for writing, Rusty! You might check out Linda’s bread recipes to find something that might work, but it is somewhat of a challenge. I wish you well in your low-carb, gluten-free journey.
