The forecast for this weekend in my neck of the woods here in South Carolina is snow mixed with sleet, freezing rain, and lots of ice. Icky poo! But that’s not gonna damper this edition of “Fun-Filled Friday” because we gots lots to talk about and share today. Who knows, maybe I’ll get into another snow fight with my neighbor’s kid Rachel like I did with the last snow we had in March 2009:
Did you hear about the new Apple product this week that made headlines called the iPad? Kinda funny for a name of an electronics device that’s supposed to revolutionize the world of communications forever, don’t ya think? Well, MadTV sure thought so a few years back when they did a parody using that very name:
OMG, that’s just too funny! Didn’t the folks at Apple KNOW this was out there and yet they STILL insisted on calling it that? Dopes! And, you know, somebody else isn’t too happy with the new iPad either. Have you heard Hitler weigh in on it yet?
I LOVE those videos…very creative stuff! Speaking of that, have you seen the “Dancing Inmates” from The Phillipines? These guys are incredible doing choreography to Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”:
WOW! That “peace” symbol at the end sent chills up and down my spine. MJ would be proud. Hey, by the way, have you seen that new Walmart commercial on television yet with the dad in the clown’s outfit? This is one of the funniest marketing pieces they’ve ever done:
What makes it so raucously hilarious is I can see a little girl’s dad doing that. Did you notice how the daughter didn’t scream and run away when daddy went berzerko in front of all of her friends? If it was real, she’d probably be in shock with what happened. Kinda like this woman on “The Price Is Right” this week after she saw a brand new car in the Showcase Showdown:
She ended up winning TWO cars on the show, too! Quick, somebody throw some pillows behind her. While he’s a spoiled little brat, this kid from the TV show “Wife Swap” had a great line where he said “bacon is good for me”:
That boy needs a good whipping, but then I’d feed him all the bacon he wants. At least the kid doesn’t have OCD like this poor USPS mailman who probably stood there doing this all day:
WOW! I do believe he’s in the wrong profession. Maybe he could work in a grocery store going around reading food labels all day:
Former NBA basketball star John Salley is right: “If you can’t read it, you shouldn’t eat it.” GOOD STUFF and sage advice. Similarly, we just just say NO to GMO:
Stunning, shocking, and so very true! Makes you wanna stick with organic foods, right? Before I finish up this post, I wanted to tell you about a great fundraising effort for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this month from a lady named Evelyne who is a talented photographer. She has created some outstanding photo desk calendars and donating 100% of the profits to Partners in Health for earthquake relief. Help a good cause and get a beautiful calendar in return!
That’s it for this “Fun-Filled Friday.” Hopefully I’m not iced in all weekend or lose my power. Whatever happens will happen and I’ll be ready for it no matter what. THANKS for reading and we’ll catch you again soon.

Thanks for the funny videos, Jimmy! I really enjoy your Friday posts, as they give me a good reason to laugh at the end of the week. This week was especially bad with my sons all down with the tummy flu, ugh! I really needed the laugh, especially the I LOVE BACON one! ha ha! Bacon rules, btw.
Sorry to hear about the rough week with your sons being sick, Lupe. I’m glad my “Fun-Filled Friday” post cheered you up and gave you reason to smile. The bacon one is CLASSIC!

Haaaa, all kids run away at some point and this one’ll be back as soon as he’s hungry!! From the looks of him, more bacon and fewer carbs would be beneficial.
I thought the same thing, Katy!

All great videos, Jimmy, but that last one was super powerful. Loved the ipad ones. I recognized the Hitler one as being from the movie “Downfall.” Saw that one in school a couple of years ago. Really intense movie.
Glad you enjoyed the videos, Erica!

That kid is SMART though! Maybe the bacon has helped him. Just remove the refined carbs and he is all set!
Interested to listen to your upcoming interview with Carnie Wilson. Was wondering whether you’d seen or heard anything about homeopathic HCG. I know someone who had weight loss surgery and still did not lose weight but has lost 50 lbs with homeopthic HCG. In fact, I know a whole host of people, myself included who have lost significant weight using it. It also has the effect of reshaping the body which is what I was most interested in because it’s the only way I have been able to get rid of the very large saddlebags I’ve had all my life!
THANKS Celia! I won’t be interviewing Carnie Wilson necessarily, but rather taking part in a conference call to ask her a question about her current quest to lose weight again. Hope to land an interview for the podcast. As for homeopathic HCG, listen to my upcoming interview with Dr. Kendra Pearsall from ENLITA coming February 11, 2010.

Thanks! Should have known you’d be onto it.
Fun stuff. My friends and I all cracked up when we heard about the iPad. And bacon is the food that makes other food taste better!
Of course the GMO stuff is way over the top. People freak the minute you mention genetics because they don’t really understand what it means. They make it sound like a bunch of mad scientists are trying to take over the world when they’re simply trying to make things better and make crops that are more pest and drought-resistant in order to grow better in those areas of the world where drought and other issues are a big problem. A lot of those people are starving and hardier crops would help them. It’s not that much different than crossbreeding different varieties of plants to produce better ones. Sure, there should be plenty of testing and regulation, and yes, there could be unintended consequences, but videos like that are simply alarmist, taking unrelated “facts” and coming up with wild speculations packaged as “truth”. This reminds me of those rabid vegan types who blame all manner of ills on meat-eating.
Okay, soapbox rant over
As a scientist/engineer, I get cranky when people insinuate that those in my field are a bunch of soulless monsters. Most of us really do want to make the world a better place.
Meanwhile, I’m down 5 lbs. on my low-carb diet. Only 45 more to go!
Keep it up, Tula!

Great line up, very entertaining. The GMO video was very well done. I do wonder where the bees went. Do keep in mind that Einstein was not right about everything, for one, he was a terrible viola player, but for another the bees have been in trouble for a while and we don’t seem to be at risk for extinction.
That said, its worth investigating. The foods which seem to cause me the most trouble are ones that carry antibiotics such as dairy products or meat that is not grass fed and grains/legumes like soy, corn and wheat. I did not know that the flavor savor tomato had fish genetic code, that does concern me, my mother is deathly allergic to all things from the ocean, including sea vegetables, fish, shell fish, and even sea salt causes anaphelactic (spl?) responses.
GMOs are not the same as crossbreeding different types of plants as humans have been doing for thousands of years. Never have we put salmon genes into the genetic material of a plant, never have we put human genes into the genetic material of a pig. GMO development is different IN KIND than anything the planet has ever seen.
For a great explanation of why and how this is so, see Michael Pollan’s section on it in The Botany of Desire. (My favorite Pollan book!)
