Yee haw, it’s Friday again and you know what that means? What, you don’t know what that means? Wellllll, lemme tell you.
I started a new tradition on Fridays starting with the first Friday of 2009 last week that I’d feature some cute, funny, and interesting stories that I want to blog (and sometimes rant) about as part of Fun-Filled Friday. This week I’ve got some pretty good ones to share with you:

In 2007, I got my wife Christine a Wii game system from Nintendo by standing in line at Sam’s Club at 4:30am on the day after Thanksgiving hoping I was there in time to be one of the lucky recipients of what has been the most highly-sought after gift the past two Christmas seasons. They had 30 of them in stock and I was #28. GO ME! Christine has mostly played the games that came with the package, but I got interested in the Wii Sports games like baseball, golf, and tennis. But my favorite one is Wii bowling. I throw a pretty straight ball which mimics my bowling game in real life. But last week I did something that I’ve NEVER done in a real bowling game–A PERFECT 300 GAME! The proof is in the picture above and you can see I got 12 strikes in a row!!! That was a lot of fun and nerve-wracking because I had gotten close two times before and ended with a 289. But this time was absolute perfection and I just had to share it with you. YEAH!

Did you notice the dramatic DROP in gas prices late last year? During the summer when the average price of gas was up over $4.00/gallon, all we heard about from politicians and businesses was that we need to become less dependent on foreign oil and more energy independent. All of that is well and good if prices remained the same, but week after week I kept watching the price of gasoline drop, drop, drop until it reached as low as $1.28/gallon at the local Sam’s Club here in Spartanburg, South Carolina. That’s a SIGNIFICANT reduction in the price which has driven some federal bureaucrats to propose RAISING the national tax on gasoline by a dime per gallon. Leave well enough alone people! The market ALWAYS corrects itself when supply and demand are out of kilter. You’ll notice gas is on the way back up again due in part to the unrest between Israel and Hamas over the Gaza Strip. What’s funny is how the price goes UP even BEFORE something bad is expected to happen (hurricanes anyone?). It would be nice if they’d just charge a flat rate for gas and LEAVE IT THERE.

There was no fanfare about it because it happened quietly, but the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog officially passed the 4 million pageview mark this week. Since I started this blog in April 2005, the growth here has been unbelievable! I am in awe at the number of people who make this blog a regular part of their day and sincerely appreciate those supporters who keep coming back to be educated, encouraged, and inspired all over again with the information I provide here. Sometimes the work I invest in doing this blog can seem unimportant, but then I’m reminded of the literally thousands of e-mails from people whose lives have been forever changed by the message of livin’ la vida low-carb and it motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing that much more. I’m still as excited to be doing this today as I was the first day I started blogging and I look forward to many more years and tens of millions more pageviews to come! THANK YOU!!!

Finally, I just had to share about this story about a new study claiming people with big butts are healthiest and protected against Type 2 diabetes. This is NOT a joke! Researchers out of Harvard published the results of their study in the scientific journal Cell Metabolism say the popular pear shape producing a large derriere in women may actually be protecting them against Type 2 diabetes because their bodies make better use of insulin. Lead researcher Researcher Dr. Ronald Kahn said he was surprised to learn that it wasn’t so much that abdominal fat was harmful to health, but that subcutaneous fat in the rear was healthy. He added, “I think it points to a special aspect of fat where we need to do more research.” WOW, who would have ever thought this? Of course, Dr. Kahn thinks this is great because it can lead to yet another new drug. UGH! Why don’t we just start playing Sir Mix-A-Lot everywhere to inspire bigger butts?
That’s about it this time, but we’ll have more for you next Friday. Got something fun, funny, or interesting to share with me and my readers for future “Fun-Filled Friday” segments? E-mail those to me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. Have a SUPER DUPER DIPPITY DOO weekend!!!

Unfortunately, people may read too much into this report. Even if subcutaneous fat helps the body use insulin better, most women with large bottoms are large elsewhere, too. I see a few, but not too many skinny pears with slender torsos and small waists.
I prefer Queen’s Fat Bottomed girls and I personally like my girls with a little junk in the trunk, so that is great news.
I was really tickled to see that article about big butts too! Mine is sure as heck nowhere as big as it was 100 pounds ago, but I’m pretty sure it will always be “big” relative to the rest of me. Thank the good Lord that I have a hubby who appreciates rounder derrieres
LOL…..a reason to appreciate my derriere!
It’s true, Jimmy. I’ve studied the apple-shaped women vs. pear-shaped women science. Pear-shapes live longer and are more feminine. And whichever shape you are, there’s not a darn thing you can do about it. it’s genetic. I’m hoping us apple shapes can truly be helped by living LC, since we’re the shape that needs to worry about healthy eating.
In fact, I’d enjoy hearing someone on your show discuss this very subject. Not to really depress us apple women, but to simply make apple women aware that they are the ones that need to worry about insulin. Maybe it would clear up how some women can eat tons of carbs and have good blood sugar, etc. even if they are overweight. Their fat is truly different from our fat.
Anyway, I think it’s an important and interesting subject maybe you could have someone on about.
Thanks for listening! Oh, also I think the pear shapes have less heart disease and they have lower blood pressure, etc.
There is a study to justify almost any partial perspective when it comes to health. The best way to manifest maximum health is to take an Integral approach that accounts for as many perspectives as possible.
Jimmy,
That bit about big butts was absolutely hilarious. I was LOL and had to tell my dh “sorry – you’ll probably get diabetes but my big hiney is going to spare me
” All those years of him being skinny and I finally have one up on him. Thanks for the laugh!
The article about bigger butts was interesting.
About the Wii, you should look into getting a Fit for it. I got one for my birthday last week. The hoola hoop is great. If you’re gonna exercise, why not have some fun doing it?
hey…what an article i hope people dont misread it..im going to mention this on http://www.blackfitnessblog.com because alot of sisters might misinterpret this..thanks
Jimmy,
Adding a gas tax now is a great idea. To get people off their sugar addiction, you would be in favor of taxing sugared products, right? Same thing goes here, because as a nation we are addicted to oil, and we need to get off of it fast. Prices aren’t really going up b/c of the Israel-Palestine conflict, they’re going up because we hit the bottom on limiting our usage back when it was $4/gallon, and now that we are using gas a bit more, prices are inching up. Check out what is happening in Venezuela now … now that oil prices are falling, the dictator there is losing his grip on things and starting to negotiate with western oil companies. See link.
THANKS Matt! I realize basic economics and that prices fluctuate for a variety of reasons and when demand is down, supply goes up–which then leads to LOWER prices. That’s what happened to gas. Interesting news about Venezuela. As for taxing sugar and sugary products, I’m NOT in favor of this just because it is something I oppose. This will then give the government free license to find something else they dislike and taxing it, too. Once they have a taste of this kind of morality taxation power, there’s no stopping them!
–Jimmy
True true – my bad. Government already taxes cigarettes quite heavily though. But thinking about it there is no way they would get it right, and would end up taxing fat instead.
