Mark Sisson takes up the low-carb cause with his “Daily Apple” blog
One of my favorite health and nutrition blogs on the Internet is “Mark Sisson’s Daily Apple.” Mark is someone who has been on both ends of the fitness spectrum–first as a former Olympic-trained triathlete eating upwards of 1200 grams of carbohydrates a daily to fuel the beast who now realizes that ultra-high-carb consumption is not exactly the best way to live healthy. I’ve been wanting to interview him for a couple of years now because the quality of his blog content is so amazing. And now it’s happened!
In Episode 176 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” the ever-enthusiastic Mark Sisson talks all about his poor dietary past in his athletic training, why he believes low-carb living according to his “Primal Blueprint” is the healthy lifestyle possible, his nutritional supplementation company Primal Nutrition and so much more! You’ll be encouraged to know that there are people like Mark Sisson out there championing the cause we so passionately believe in.

Are you already reading Mark’s blog and appreciate the work he is doing? What do you think about what he had to say in my podcast today? Let’s talk about it in the show notes section of Episode 176. Be sure to bookmark “Mark Sisson’s Daily Apple” and visit early and often. I consider him a GREAT friend of “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” and will DEFINITELY have him back again in the future!
Coming up next week on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we have Pete Bils from the unique bed company called Select Comfort (the Sleep Number bed people!) talking about the health and weight loss benefits of getting a good night’s sleep on Monday followed by Dr. Phil nutrition and health expert JJ Virgin on Thursday discussing The Art Of Losing It. And, no, we’re not talking about your mind! SEE YA THEN!

Great interview Jimmy – as I commented on his website, Mark is certainly an eloquent advocate for the lifestyle. He briefly alludes in the interview to possible differences in your respective positions on what constitutes an appropriate amount of fruit. It will be interesting to hear you discuss that in a future interview.
My view is that the Primal/Paleo lifestyle is a subset of the low carb lifestyle – a specialist offshoot, if you like, geared towards people who are a bit more serious about the athletic performance side and more purist about diet. I am definately a ‘primalist’ (I would never eat hot dogs, for example even though they are low carb) but I am also a pragmatist and believe it’s important to spread the word that the low carb lifestyle, provided it’s within reasonable healthy boundaries, is a healthier way, as it probably represents our best shot at persuading a wider audience away from the high carb lunacy under which most people live.
Well-stated Methuselah! I’m all for people finding what works for them…it’s the very essence of what makes livin’ la vida low-carb work for virtually everyone. If that means eating a little more fruit than someone else, then so be it. I’m adjusting my own personal needs for fruit as we speak, so me and Mark probably aren’t as far apart as he thinks we are.
See my recent menus blogs to see how much fruit I’m eating now.

Congrads jimmy, great interview. I personally think the changes you are making are good and healthy. I actually find that I lose faster with lower carb fruits in my diet. I’m not sure if it’s because I have less craving or if it is the vitamins or even water content. I will say, when I eat a little fruit I have fewer cravings and end up eating next to no low carb processed snacks. I just feel more relaxed and less restricted. I want to do more research on the paleo or primal diets.
