Remembering Kevin Moore

6-Year LLVLC Blogiversary Giveaway Contest Entry Survey

Time flies when you’re having fun and that must mean we’re having a whole lotta fun here at the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog. Who knew when this blog was created on April 21, 2005 by a former 410-pound man who lost triple-digit weight following a healthy low-carb lifestyle in 2004 that it would not only still be around in 2011–but also STILL seeing an increase in traffic and tremendous interest from people struggling to find the answers to their own weight and health woes? But here we are going strong and I have no plans in the foreseeable future of going anywhere.

I’m a man on a mission to spread the word about how livin’ la vida low-carb is indeed a viable option for people struggling with obesity, diabetes, heart disease, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, cancer and a whole host of other chronic diseases. My three-pronged goal from the very beginning has been to educate, encourage, and inspire others as they take their own journey to better health by implementing a high-fat, moderate protein, low-carb nutritional approach to help make that happen. Six years and nearly 6 million blog hits later, I’d say we’re doing just that!

People often ask me where I get the energy to wake up everyday and do what I do. From blogging here, the torrid recording schedule for my highly successful podcast, regular YouTube videos, a brand new podcast, my latest book 21 Life Lessons From Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb and everything else I do to keep the low-carb community informed about what’s happening in the low-carb universe, I do stay quite busy most of the time. But I’m power-fueled by (fat and protein!) a sincere desire and passion to share the truths I have learned along the way in a format that is hopefully entertaining yet informative. I know my style isn’t for everyone, but I gotta stay authentic about who and what I am in everything I do. There’s nothing worse than people who pretend they are something they’re not. What you see is what you get from Jimmy Moore.

Most of what I do is a true labor of love and I’m honored by the daily presence of my readers. Whenever you support one of my sponsors or make a financial donation to me, it says you find value in what I offer and want to see it continue. While I’m certainly not getting rich blogging about low-carb diets, I’m very blessed to be able to pay my bills and take care of that darling wife of mine and possibly the child(ren) she may be bearing soon if our embryo transfer procedure works. I’ve gotten to meet so many truly amazing human beings along the way through e-mails, in person at obesity conferences, on the Annual Low-Carb Cruise, at low-carb meetups, and everywhere else this “job” takes me. When I tell people I’m a “health blogger/podcaster” for a living, I get some really funny looks. Hey, it’s not your everyday 9-5 job–it’s SO MUCH MORE! And again, I wouldn’t trade this job for anything right now despite the fact I probably “work” 70-80 hours a week.

As has become my tradition since I celebrated one year of blogging in 2006, I like to take this time to reflect and show my appreciation by offering my wonderful readers a chance to win some really nice prizes. My 6-year Blogiversary in 2011 is no different. Longtime readers will tell you the incredible feeling of winning a prize in my contest each year and it thrills me to be able to put these cool prizes into your hands as my way of saying THANK YOU for your unrelenting support of my work. I always try to find a very special giveaway as the GRAND PRIZE each year and I believe this year’s is the biggest and best I’ve ever offered. It won’t be necessarily for everyone who enters, but it is certainly a one-of-a-kind event that you’ll get to share with me. Wanna know more about it?

I recently interviewed a man named Erwan Le Corre from MovNat about his concept of “moving naturally” (ergo, MovNat) as our bodies were intended. The idea of going to the gym to do hours of mindless cardio walking on a treadmill goes against what nature intended. That’s why Erwan has developed a series of MovNat Workshops to help everyday people like you and me learn how to move the correct way to avoid injury while having a great time. His methods teach you how to breathe, listen to your body for greater self-awareness, develop skills for implementing this movement into your daily life, and to get connected to your environment. He’s offering several dates for his 5-Day “Reawakening Course” this summer, including one happening in the woods and lake of Summersville Lake, West Virginia on July 4-9, 2011. This all-inclusive (except for transportation to Summersville) trip is valued at $1690–but ONE LUCKY READER is going to get to go for FREE! But that’s not all…you get to do the MovNat Workshop experience with Jimmy Moore. Yep, you heard me right. I’m also gonna take the plunge and do this, too. It’ll be quite the adventure. So whoever wins the GRAND PRIZE won’t be alone. I’ll be right there with you.

After interviewing Erwan for my podcast (the interview will likely air sometime next month), I can tell you right now this is gonna be so much fun. The man is as hilarious as that photo to the right and I am genuinely looking forward to being a part of this event. I’m gonna admit right now that this puts me out of my comfort zone but I’m willing to give it a go to soak in the experience. While I’m a pretty active guy regularly engaging in organized exercise of all kinds from volleyball, basketball, yoga, and more, this will kick my routine up another notch. Regardless of your fitness level, the MovNat Workshop Reawakening Course is sure to make you better by the time you leave. And lest you are worried about the kind of nutrition Erwan advocates, you’ll be pleased to know he’s happily in the Paleo/low-carb camp. Meal, activities, and bedding will all be provided for you and I am stoked about going through this with one of you. If you wish to be eligible for the GRAND PRIZE, then you have to let me know if you can commit to being a part of the July 4-9, 2011 event in West Virginia when you enter. If you can’t or don’t want to go, then please let me know. GOOD LUCK! Direct any questions you may have about the MovNat Workshops to vic@movnat.com.

Wanna see the kind of prizes I’ve given away to my readers in previous Blogiversary contests? Check out my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th blogiversary contest posts to see for yourself. We’ll have a full listing of the MORE THAN 60 PRIZES available for you to win, including autographed copies of your favorite Paleo/low-carb books, low-carb swag, and, of course, that MovNat prize I shared above, in blog posts coming soon. Check back often to see what you can win, but you can go ahead and enter to win a prize by submitting your answers to the following survey questions that I’ll use in a post next month to provide an informal update on the state of the low-carb community. This is always a fascinating snapshot of where we are as a collective. E-mail me the following information if you would like to win a prize in my 6-Year Blogiversary Giveaway and make sure you put in the subject line “BLOGIVERSARY CONTEST”:

1. Your first and last name, mailing address (no P.O. boxes please), and telephone number.
2. What is your current eating plan and how long have you been eating this way?
3. What specific foods are the basics of your diet and what are the weight and health benefits you’ve experienced eating this way? If you have children, are they eating this way, too?
4. Who are the top 10 trusted resources you turn to for quality information about health?
5. Have you visited GetYourHealthTested.com? If not, why? If so, did you order any test(s)? If not, why not?
6. Have you gotten a copy of Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes? Why or why not? Do you own or have you read a copy of his 2007 book Good Calories Bad Calories?
7. How long have you been reading the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog? How did you find it?
8. Will you be attending the Ancestral Health Symposium in Los Angeles, CA this August? Why or why not?
9. Have you listened to my brand new podcast “Low-Carb Conversations” yet? If not, why not? If so, what do you think so far?
10. How many more years do you think it will take before high-fat, low-carb nutrition is accepted and embraced as a healthy lifestyle in the United States? What needs to happen to bring about that paradigm shift in thinking?

There are no wrong answers to this survey, so share your honest feedback with me. Please send your responses to livinlowcarbman@charter.net with the subject line “BLOGIVERSARY CONTEST” no later than 11:59PM EST on Friday, April 22, 2011. Winners will be selected at random that weekend and announced on the blog on Monday, April 25, 2011. Please only one entry per household to make it fair for everyone to win a prize. The loot this year contains some really awesome stuff and you’ll learn more about that soon. It’s hard to believe I’ve been blogging for six years but I’ve loved every minute of it! THANK YOU as always for your incredibly faithful support and GOOD LUCK as you enter to win a prize.

I had some fun this weekend putting together an Xtranormal Movie about this contest:

Feel free to post this video on your Facebook and Twitter pages or at your blog! THANKS!

  • Suzanna

I love your xtranormal movie, especially since it looks like it’s set on the subway I take to work every day! Here’s hoping I meet a low carb hottie on the train one of these days…

  • Thank you so much, Jimmy, for all your hard work through those 6 years. You are really amazing! I am going to pray about Christine and that she will have the baby she longs for. You’re a good hubby, I can tell. Thanks again!
