25 Sizzling New Low-Carb & Health Blogs For July 2010

It’s that time again for Christine and I to go away for a few days and so there won’t be any new columns posted the rest of the week. However, as regular readers already know, I like to keep you busy with some useful information being provided by other fantastic new low-carb and health bloggers that have captured my attention lately and today I’ve got 25 outstanding ones just waiting for you to take a look at. This is a fascinating crop of blogs that are all worthy of examining a little closer while I’m gone this week in Washington, DC. I’m going to be testifying before the USDA’s Advisory Board to share my concerns and disgust with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans they’ve come up with that calls for even more carbohydrate intake, less fat, and a move to a more vegetarian-styled diet. Each of the people testifying will have three minutes to state their case and it should be a memorable experience for everyone attending. Check out my Twitter and Facebook pages to keep up with what is happening as I’ll try to provide updates from the event. Additionally, video exit interviews of the low-carb speakers like Dr. Richard Feinman, Sally Fallon, and others will be conducted outside the USDA building at the conclusion of the day. GOOD STUFF!

ATTENTION METRO DC AREA READERS: Join Christine and I for dinner on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 7:00PM at the Outback Steakhouse located at 150 Elden Street #100 in Herndon, Virginia. We always enjoy meeting the people who read this blog, listen to my podcast show, or watch our YouTube videos. E-mail me at livinlowcarbman@charter.net if you’re coming. I’ll have autographed copies of my latest book 21 Life Lessons From Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb on hand as well, so I hope to see you Washington, DC folks live and in person.

The following 25 blogs are are all ones that you’ll want to spend some time checking out. Being a new blogger can be intimidating because you just never know who if anyone is actually reading your stuff and if it’s worth your time to be writing so much. So if you see something on one of these blogs that piques your interest or makes you think, then take a few moments to leave a comment or write an e-mail to that blogger. You have no idea just how powerful a statement that simple little action really has. And when you do, don’t forget to tell them that Jimmy Moore from “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” told you to drop in. Just in case you might have missed any of my previous low-carb and health blog listings, you can access them by clicking here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Jimmy- no offense but its like a hundred+ degrees outside so bare with my peeve. Washington DC has some of the finest restaurants anywhere in the world. Outback is a nice place if traveling on I-95 but once in the DC area, I know you could find better restaurant that is affordable, Low Carb and maybe a unique adventure worthy of a story or post.

PJ, I’ve LOVE to have the get-together with my readers at some local place close to our hotel (we’re walking to the restaurant) that serves grass-fed beef, organic veggies, etc. But I’m not familiar with the area and that was the closest place where I thought it was a safe bet they’d have food for low-carbers to eat. Ideally, you’re exactly right. Practically, this is probably the best plan. THANKS for your input!

When Christine and I are together during the week in the heart of DC, you can be assured we’ll be checking out the ones there.

Jimmy, I sincerely hope your USDA-expedition is successful. Enjoy yourselves in W DC. Thank you for providing the link to our CutTheCarb blog. It surely helps spreading the word. VBR Hans

Hi, Jimmy! I was just looking at blog #4 – My Carb Sane-Asylum – and found it to be curiously anti-low-carb in many ways. Not only does the author say that low carb is not what causes weight loss, but rather calorie restriction and increased exercise, but she picks on you in particular in one post. I started jumping from post to post, and all I found were more posts explaining why low carb is not the way to go…

    ??

    • http://www.livinlavidalowcarb.com Jimmy Moore

Thanks Rebecca. Keep in mind these are all interesting health blogs to check out–not necessarily ones that agree with low-carb. Sure, most do, but some offer intriguing counterarguments that are worthy of your attention. Thanks for the feedback.

  • http://lowcarbish.blogspot.com/ DreamPuppy

Thanks for promoting my blog Jimmy! That was so nice of you! And I always am looking for new low carb blogs to peruse. Cool!

    • http://www.livinlavidalowcarb.com Jimmy Moore

You bet! Keep up the great work. :)

“intriguing counterarguments that are worthy of your attention..”

Hmmm… visited #2, Eat More Butter. She devotes a whole post to the virtues of The Potato. And it starts out:

    “Ah, the much-maligned potato.
When the low-carb craziness was in full swing, the humble potato was cast aside by those watching their waistlines. Mashed potatoes? Greek-style potato spear…Boiled new potatoes…? Never! I avoided putting potatoes on my plate for years. And what a shame that was!”

If I had tons of time to spend reading blogs that preach the opposite of what I believe to be healthy, this might be amusing. Sometimes, I think a few bloggers take advantage of your generosity and open-door policy.

But thank you, anyway, for all the time and work you put in to promoting healthy low carb lifestyles. I hope you and Christine find lots of time to enjoy your trip to DC.

Thanks Loretta! Most of the blogs I share here are totally on message with only the occasional dissident. So you shouldn’t be wasting your time checking them out. Enjoy!

  • http://eatmorebutter.blogspot.com/ Diana from Eat More Butter

Hi Jimmy – thanks so much for promoting Eat More Butter! Not sure how you found us but it was a huge shock when I checked out our stats today. You have a lot of readers and it was very kind of you to point them in our direction. We’re all about eating real, traditional food and yes, even potatoes (gasp!) – I can’t tell you how surprised I was about the nutritional benefits of spuds. Hope our general point of view gives your readers good food for thought. There’s so much to learn about food, isn’t there? Thanks again! -Diana

    • http://www.livinlavidalowcarb.com Jimmy Moore

You are quite welcome, Diana. I won’t be running out to eat potatoes anytime soon, but I love my grassfed butter.

  • http://how-to-cook-with-vesna.com Vesna

Hi Jimmy, thank you so much for including how-to-cook-with-vesna.com in your list. What an honor! You know I am your devoted fan. Like Diana from Eat More Butter (@Diana, I’m already a fan of yours!) I don’t have a completely low-carb site, but it is “on message” as you say as far as being 100% PRO butter, eggs, meat and all the real foods and traditional foodways that have sustained good human health for eons. My take is, if it came in with the Agricultural Revolution (wheat, barley, oats, beer, long-fermented sourdough bread, olive oil), I think we can include it in moderation and as our health permits. If it came in with the Industrial Revolution (baking powder, Crisco, canola oil, nonfat yogurt, Wheaties, high-fructose corn syrup) then pretty much the newer it is, the more scared of it I am! How-to-cook-with-vesna.com is about reclaiming our right to really understand, eat and enjoy. Thank you again!

      You bet and my pleasure.

Thanks for the blog recommendations. I’ll have to check them out!
