‘Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show’ Episode 364: Holistic Dentist Dr. Kevin Boehm Looks At How Gum Health And Heart Health Are Connected

When you think about the medical professionals who are most important for helping patients deal with improving cardiovascular health–cardiologists, dietitians, family physicians, internists, naturopaths, and endocrinologists–it’s all pretty obvious. But what about a dentist? That’s right, a dentist! What if he could identify a common culprit in heart health that could very well be missed by all of those other experts. Well today we have a podcast guest who identifies himself as a holistic dentist who is concerned with the interconnection between the health of your mouth and the health of your heart.

In Episode 364 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Wheaton, IL-based dentist Dr. Kevin Boehm, DDS, from Wheaton Family Dentistry who shares about the relationship between the health of your gums and cardiovascular health. Listen to Dr. Boehm share why gum health and heart health are connected, why holistic dentistry is uniquely qualified to identify this connection, how fossilized bacteria from the mouth is a problem for your health, how the bacteria gets from the mouth to the heart, the specific bacteria that leads to gum disease and then into the blood vessels, the role of diet in this process, supplements that help improve gum health, the questionability of statin drugs, the studies supporting the connection between gum disease and cardiovascular health, why the old guard doesn’t support the connection as much as the new doctors/dentists, the influence of the great Dr. Weston A. Price, the role sugar and gluten play in overall health, tips for preventing gum disease and thus vascular health, the growth of the holistic dentistry profession, and the kind of health professionals who are on ChicagoHealers.com. It’s good to know there are dentists like Dr. Boehm who are looking at mouth health and how it impacts the rest of the body.
