‘Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show’ Episode 235: The Amazing Adventures Of Shauna ‘Dietgirl’ Reid!

Popular weight loss blogger Shauna Reid is the amazing Dietgirl!

All of us who have been on a journey to lose a significant amount of weight have a story to share because this kind of significant life event isn’t always a quick and easy narrative. Ask anybody who has lost over 100 pounds–losing the weight was the relatively easy part, it’s what happened prior to and after that attempting to keep the weight off for good where the reality of life can kick you in the tail. It’s this kind of amazing adventure that today’s podcast interview guest detailed in her new book.

In Episode 235 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” it’s a privilege to have with us straight from Scotland by way of Australia one of the most famous weight loss bloggers in the world Shauna Reid from the “Dietgirl” blog. She recently released a book about her experience losing half of her body weight called The Amazing Adventures Of Dietgirl. Starting out at 351 pounds in her early 20s, Shauna went through an incredible path to shed the pounds while going through some stressful times. If you wanna be encouraged in your weight loss, then go check out Shauna’s stunning before and after photos. WOW, what a difference! Hear her talk about what it was like blogging every moment of this extraordinary feat in her life. Although she’s not a low-carber, I think Shauna has some invaluable insights on life that you’ll love and appreciate.

The interviews just keep rolling in and next week will feature two guests with virtually diametrically opposite dietary philosophies. On Monday, I welcome for the first time on my podcast show Dr. Jeff Volek, a noted low-carb researcher from the University of Connecticut and co-author of the famed TNT Diet from Men’s Health magazine. We discussed a wide range of topics related to low-carb living. Then on Thursday, I’ll bring you Dr. Michael Ozner who wrote a book called The Great American Heart Hoax: Lifesaving Advice Your Doctor Should Tell You About Heart Disease Prevention (But Probably Never Will). I really had high hopes about this interview when I heard about Dr. Ozner’s book. But unlike Dr. Volek, he is dedicated to promoting a high-carb, Mediterranean-styled diet that runs counter to what many low-carbers would say is healthy. Listen in to hear what he has to say about heart health and why low-carb is probably not the best way to improve it (we’ll see about that!). That’s what is on tap next week on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore.”

Great guest and great interview Jimmy! — Two things pop to mind as I analyse this! — Ketones and weight stalls! — The lack of one preceding the other! — Here is what I’m saying. — You Jimmy, are stalled to no avail and have been stalled to no avail for sometime now in the 240′s and low 250′s, if I’m not mistaken. — I, myself, have been stalled in the 260′s for what seems like forever. — Your guest, Shauna, has stalled out at 175# forever and she has rationalized this point as her optimal weight for her body chemistry and frame and rightfully, is very satisfied with her 175# weight loss and no longer having to suffer from being overtly obese.

Now here is what I am saying.

Ketosis only kicks in and works and helps to lose weight and feed off from the fat on our bodies when there is an absence of carbohydrates.

When we bombard our bodies with unnatural carbohydrates our pancreas kicks out insulin and then stores these excess carbohydrates as fat. — It has no other choice and ketosis and ketones cannot materialise.

So what I’m saying is that Shauna’s weight stall and your weight stall and my weight stall are all direct results of our carbohydrate consumption and therefore the inability of ketosis to take effect and remove fat.

We have leveled out at what we consider to be a low sugar diet and lifestyle and way of eating and that’s it! — Period!

I believe that what we have done, each one of us respectively, along with millions and millions of other “career dieters” that we confer with, is, I believe we have done the “classic” — “reduced our carbohydrate and stimulant addiction”, rather than BREAKING and stopping our carbohydrate and stimulant sugar addiction.

In the process we get to keep our carbohydrates and maintain this low leval addiction, which pleases our addiction to no end and allows it to “live” and someday prosper if given the chance, rather than being destroyed and stopped.

No addiction wants to be stopped!

So we end up with “no ketosis” and no further weight loss.

My carbohydrates are onions and garlic which is the same thing as eating apples, as well as bacon by the pound and sometimes other processed meats, which additionally have sugar in them.

I am fortunate in that I drink only water.

Shauna starts out by saying she stopped eating sugar and then begins to elaborate but gets sidelined and never gets back to it. — Later she mentions oatmeal. — That’s a dead giveaway.

I myself am fortunate in that there are no grains or fruit or dairy in my diet, but I am eating 25# of onions and several pounds of garlic every month in addition to the bacon.

This is the reason for my weight stall and lack of keytosis.

Yours is yours Jimmy and Shauna’s is Shauna’s.

“No matter what, they are weight stalls and that means no “ketosis”, no matter what”.

Our bodies sense we are too fat when we remove the unnatural sugar and carbohydrates addictions from our bodies and ketosis removes this fat.

    Carbohydrates = No ketosis!

“Net carbohydrates” is another way we fool ourselves into maintaining our low level sugar addictions.
